Yup delete the existing SkyrimSE.exe from the Skyrim folder in steamapps/common and paste in the downloaded one
I did it a few days ago.
While your game will run and play seemingly fine, you will see problems with your mods even if you have not downloaded any new ones, or updated any of them already to work with the new version.
Some things that started happening for me:
- NPC t-posing more often
- Animals like bears and spiders “freezing” but still making sounds, floating across the ground, and being able to take damage and be killed (but still stuck in pose after death)
- mods such as the one that gives all Bosmer NPCs antlers, another that introduces lock variations, and some NPC replacers simply stopped working
- at random times, player character could equip weapons but then not attack with them for 30 - 60 seconds or until weapons had been re-equipped numerous times.
- some textures started to fail to load properly
- Maven Black-Briars name changed to Jarl Maven Black-Briar even though she a) was not the Jarl and b) I had completed the Stormcloak side of the civil war 20+ hours (real time) previously in the save.
Replacing the updated .exe with a pre-update .exe does NOT seem to be the “magic fix”. As suggested by other users on here, the update likely affected the master files for Skyrim and other game files as well.
So be warned: simply replacing the .exe will not do it. You will be able to launch and play the game using a non-updated SKSE, but you are likely to experience other issues.
I'm not running an exe from some random dude on the internet.
Unless that was a different downgrader/it was temporarily taken down.
