Save files are suddenly in another language.
I dont know why, suddenly all of my save files in Whiterun say "Weiblauf". The rest of places are still in English. I've found a forum on nexus mods talking about mods causing it but i dont have any mods installed. Apparently its just Whiterun that changes to german, everything else is normal, and i dont know why this happened. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Btw, no, im not german, so its not possible that steam has automatically changed the language of the game to my regional language.

Just in case this is related in any way to the problem: this is a new playthrough, i've been playing with mods but decided to go play vanilla again, i even made sure to reinstall the whole game and manually remove all mods from the plugins.txt file.

There is still a file left from a mod. See the following do exactly what it says:

There are no files left from a mod. This new install is literaly on a new hard drive.

i even made sure to clean up the plugins.txt after installing the game again because it always seems to readd some stuff from my previous load order in fallout 4 so i did it just in case it did the same in skyrim.
The usual cause for this is a foreign language mod, german for example.
The next obvious question is, are your saves from a modded version??

Please follow that guide. We have seen and have had people say exactly as you have, only for them to find that there were indeed files left. Part of the proof of this is that the only thing being effected is saves in Whiterun - if it was something from Steam and the downloaded files, everything would be in German. Ergo, there is a leftover file somewhere.

And you are not using an old save, right, so it cannot be due to anything in the save itself.

No, but the thing is that i have cloud storage enabled so the save files dedownloaded when i reinstalled skyrim in the new drive. Maybe the problem is not from the save file im using but from those other save files. But that doesnt make much sense because mods are save file related, so how could another save be affecting the current save? Something else must be the problem.

So let me make a more detailed of my current setup and the stepts to reach the same stup as i have:

- I had an old skyrim install with mods. No problems at all.
- I got bored and decided to play again.
- Coincidentally, i had recently adquired a new hard drive so i decided to fully delete skyrim's game files from the steam/steamapps/common folder and all of the related files, including plugins.txt and the skyrim ini files in documents folder
- I reinstalled skyrim and set the install route to the new drive.
- Skyrim currently is in a new drive that i recently got, all the left over files from the previous install are removed from the main drive in case steam reads them, i checked to see if skyrim.ini has the language set to enlish and it does.
- I had a mod that modified whiterun's cell by adding a chest, but it is no longer installed.
- The old save files have been redownloaded because i have the steam cloud storage enabled ( i might want to revisit some save in the future, who knows )
- I accidentally pressed load on an old save from the old profile, i didnt load into the game cause i noticed when i read the box listing the missing mods and chose the correct newly made profile.

My guess is that the moment i pressed that save, it must have loaded some info from it that is somehow telling skyrim to change the name of whiterun to weiblauf. But it doesnt seem to make much sense.

*Im currently reinstalling skyrim in another computer to see if creating a new profile and then loading the old save changes anything, i'll tell you in an hour or so the results of my tests when its installed.

ok, i've done the same in the other computer, i've made a new game, played a bit, got to whiterun and then, save, go to main menu, load the other save and when i went back to the new one, it was weiblauf again. It is definitely related to loading the old save by accident. After that, i have tried starting a new game and going back to the save where i got the bug and now it says whiterun again... So i guess starting a new game is a fix ... now the real question would be, why does this behaviour happen. Like. Why tho.
