Will my mods break if I buy the anniversary edition dlc?
The title says pretty much everything, I'm wondering if the anniversary edition supports the same mods that special edition does.

1.5.97 or earlier and you attempt to run the AE DLC you will likely crash (I don't know this for sure; but I would put money on it. Not a whole lot of money, probley less than a dollar).

Please tell us the version number of whatever you have installed right now. You can find this in-game on the "System" screen in the lower left hand corner beneath "Quit". We can't make worthwhile recommendations without this information.

Only the mods that utilise SKSE and dll files will break. the vast majority of mods work fine on any version. Even with that said most of these SKSE mods have been updated or have more modern alternatives to the current version, so all you have to do is download the latest version and follow the mod instructions as per usual.

That said there are a handful that have never been updated and likely never will be such as Party Combat Parameters. So if you use a niche SKSE mod such as this you should research before updating and deciding.

The update itself is what 'breaks mods' due to it changing the game version. If your game is already updated, mods are already as broken as they are going to get.

Do you mean 1.6.1170? AFAIK there is no .1770. If you have 1.6.1170 your SkyrimSE.exe is fully up-to-date and you should be able to install the "Anniversary Upgrade" without breaking skse or skse-dependent mods.

Yes, I misstyped in there. The thing is that i saw some posts online claiming that skse dependent mods dont work with AE.

They will work if the mods are updated to be compatible with the updated executable file. The Anniversary Edition DLC itself does nothing to affect SKSE64.

So basically, if a mod works on the newest skyrim SE, it will work on skyrim AE?

There is a lot of confusion about terminology. The base executable for ALL versions of Special Edition/Anniversary Edition is SkyrimSE.exe. That executable number is what skse checks for. There is a convention used by some members of the community to call 1.5.97 and earlier "Special Edition" and 1.6+ "Anniversary Edition", but this convention is not used universally.

The correct version of skse for 1.6.1170 is 2.2.6 whether or not you own what the Steam Store calls the "Anniversary Upgrade".

Generally, you will be safe installing mod versions that match your game executable number.

Most ordinary .esp, .esm, and .esl mods are not game version-dependent at all.

To be clear owning AE doesn't change your game version or anything about the game itself. You're just purchasing a bundle of all the Creation Club content that has existed on the creation club for a while. It's not the same thing as updating the game or like going from the original version of Skyrim (LE) to Special Edition

Correct. the executable is no different, the difference between SE and AE is just 70-some beth.net mods that start with ccBLAH... you'll be fine, unless there's duplicated function in something you've already installed, which your mod manager will warn you of and you can decide what overrides what. You'll be fine, though.

Alright, thanks for the help!

If you have the regular up to date Skyrim (meaning you didn't go out of your way to block Skyrim updates), then you have the most up to date Skyrim, which many modders refer to as the anniversary edition even if you don't have the anniversary edition dlc.

Getting the dlc won't affect your version of the game, or affect any mods you may currently have right now.
