Who knew an indie game would become the 8th best selling game in our Solar System AND the world's best-selling RPG? 👑

It is certainly not an indie game!

An Indie game isa video game that's usually made by smaller development teams or even individuals on their own without financial or technical support from large game publishers.

D: But it's fun when people fail to realize that Skyrim's a game that:

- Japan's top gaming publication gave their top rating of all the West's games first before any other game the West ever developed
- Got a 96 on Metacritic on release
- Is the number 1 best selling RPG and 8th best selling game on Earth
- Has over 120,000 mods developed for it in counting
- Can be played in almost any way someone desires

@Ruenis:

But that's not the point in this discussion. Indie means 'independant' and so without financial and technical support from other parties.

I don't think a game that pulls *ss to hire 70 voice actors ranging from birth dates that date all the way back to the f*cking 1920s is an "indie game," lmfao.

That's on you. It's not a problem for the millions of people who've bought the game(s) over the last decade+.

While I was new to the Elder Scrolls franchise in 2021, I had at least heard of TES Online back in 2015 or 2016.

This joke would have worked better with the earlier games in the franchise. BGS was indeed an independent developer until the Zenimax acquisition just as Mojang was before their common current parent company purchased it as well.
The success of a property or its notoriety has little if anything to do with its funding methods.

No, the game's not indie. It's a Bethesda game, and that's an AAA studio. If your nephew has ever played a Doom game, a Fallout game, the Dishonored games, or a Wolfenstein game, Bethesda published them.

I bet you have heard about a lot of mobile games though. Skyrim sold $60 million copies, apparently you and friends are not on the list.
