[Solved] SkyrimSE CTD when launching through SKSE

Before reading the rest: Here's what the solution was: make SURE there are no outdated dll files in your SKSE Plugins folder. I had a single dll in there that caused the CTD so always check this first I guess.


So I wanted to start playing the game again (pretty heavily modded btw). I go to launch the game and it crashes to desktop on load. Not a huge surprise since the game's updated recently. I go and download the latest version of SKSE64.

launch again. no good.

open nexus mod manager, it tells me it's out of date and I just decide to use Mod Organizer instead.

find some warnings after sorting load order. I fix every warning and error it shows me. I launch the game, it works this time, yay!

I add some mods. Works fine. I take a break, and when I come back to play, it CTDs again.
I update all my mods that are out of date and make sure there are NO conflicts of any kind.
I clean all recommended mods with sseedit. still nothing.

I re-generated all the FNIS files with that handy tool
I double checked the load order wasn't messed up
I made sure there are no missing master files
I reset and double checked the skyrim ini files
I deleted and regenerated the steam appcache
I re-installed SKSE
I tried disabling the mods that I assume broke it (to no avail)

I've spent so many hours just trying to figure out why the hell my game won't work anymore. I've tried literally everything I can think of, and nothing works! I don't even get error logs/ messages when the game crashes! anybody have any ideas???

EDIT: I tried disabling all plugins, then running SKSE, and it still did a CTD, so it's definitely an issue with SKSE, and I can't say I know what it is yet, hopefully google knows...

I have the same problem i disabled race menu and it ran okay as soon as i enable race menu it crashes again i have found that it should run if you launch the game directly through SKSE and not Vortex or the mod manager your using hope this helps

I gave this a shot and didn't work. Really stumped. A large portion of my mods are making do without the use of SKSE so I'm temporarily getting by until a fix. Thanks for the suggestion though!
