but if you're really truly that indecisive, play Witchers first... all 3 are story RPGs, although the 3rd is a bit like Skyrim in that other than the main quest, the rest you can do as they appear to you explore the world... but Skyrim is endless and with mods, way beyond endless. if you become "one of us" you could rack up 1000s of hours over, who knows, maybe the rest of your life. A certain percentage of us have played Skyrim consistently over a decade, some weekly, some daily. and that's not hyperbole. It's crack in game form.
In terms of exploration; Skyrim > Witcher 1 & Witcher 2 but I'm not sure if Skyrim is better than Witcher 3 in this aspect, because I never fully completed W3.
Pretty sure Skyrim is more fun in terms of combat than Witcher games, at least in my opinion.
Can't agree there. I'm not a huge fan of either without mods, but Skyrim vanilla definitely does combat better than W3's lock-on cheese.
Skyrim lets you make any character you want. But the story and characters are the weak point.
Witcher series, you're Geralt. But the story and characters are much better.
I enjoyed both but never wanted to replay any witcher games. I replayed skyrim way too much.
Skyrim combat has the benefit of playing third and/or first person, but where as enemies in Witcher 3 have set levels like an MMO, Skyrim enemies level with you, so you never really feel like your levelling or that your perks do much. There's more variety of combat in Skyrim, but i guarantee you'll be going stealth archer within ten levels.
Story wise, Witcher 3 is better, mainly because you play as a voiced protagonist who can react to other Npcs in cutscenes, it makes the relationships more personal. Skyrim you have the advantage of creating whatever character you like, race and sex, but you'll find yourself most likely clicking through dialogue after a while, you never really feel engaged at times. Where Skyrim has a lot of fetch quests, Witcher 3 has some compelling content when it comes to choices. Skyrim does have some pivotal choices - which side of the Civil War you fight for, Vampire or Dawnguard, some Daedric quests, etc - but in Witcher 3 they matter more, even give different endings.
If you just like exploring, both are great. Again, Witcher 3 i think has more diverse landscapes, (Toussaint in particular is beautiful) and Novigrad puts any city in Skyrim to shame. The music in both is iconic, the levelling in both is fun, both have a wealthy array of monsters to kill, an extensive lore, and for a completionist like me, both have well over 200 hours of content in a single playthrough.
I've played both many times. I personally pick Witcher 3, but i've invested more hours into Skyrim. If you can familiarise yourself with mods, it'll make either game better, but Skyrim will take a good amount of hours to set up properly. Enjoy.
