mod: bards college
the new beth mod Bard's College, which you have to pay for...
Just a community note, if you play other races created by mods (not part of the original game) like Faerie Elves, Sun Elves, Erin, etc, they cannot use the instruments for busking(buffs).
It's a bug in the mod where it seems only original races can use the mod. So far no word if there will be a fix, so heads up... if you like playing alternative races, do not waste your money on a mod that you cant use.
Heard a rumor, beth declared mods who make free mods cannot make patches for paid mods and visa versa...which makes NO sense from a community perspective.

I highly doubt Bethesda would stop the free labor bug fixes done by mod makers

1) are you whining about paying for it, or that it doesn't do what you wish it did? because Kinggath has made a lot of excellent mods for free and still does, this one happens to be for sale. if this bothers you, I could not care in the least.

2) rumors schumors, can't stop it, won't stop it. might be able to stop big sites like nexus from hosting it, who would honor a C&D letter, because they do it for profit too, but no one else would.

3) lack of knowledge on any subject can cause frustration.

it's probably got nothing to do with the new race per se, but that they are missing some keywords, actor values, factions, etc. which assign their role in the world, be it the player or NPC. adding a race is quite generic; it defines what they look like, how the move and attack, how they sound, etc. but as far as behavior packages and gear loadouts go, these are not part of that. keywords, though, are... I'd compare the keywords assigned to one of these elves races against a vanilla race character that can busk, and see if it's obvious.

course if using CK/xEdit sounds like programming and you'd rather game, I would try bugging the Kinggath, I'm sure he'll tell you how, try something polite but direct, "hey thanks for making this, I love it! But I have a question: how do I add the ability for new/customized races to play instruments and busk and do BCE things a vanilla race can? (assuming they're standard humanoid-sized and the animations should fit/make sense.) Thanks!" or something.

most mod creators are normally quite happy to help out with actual issues instead of the brain-dead gamers posting by the hundreds "what version do I need?" or "it won't run!" with no details. that usually makes then want to quit modding and go on a murder spree. :moxes:

So what I saw when looking up the old BCE compatibility patch FOMOD is that the game makes proxy "bard" races for each of the vanilla races and uses a script or something to I dunno... Maybe swap between races on the fly? It does have fields to determine which race is the base one, if I recall. What the compatibility patch did was add in bard versions of the new races and slap the script on them.

It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to implement, but you'd have to create a patch for every single race you want to add.
king NOW has patches on his site (mainly for art assets). look them up on the side panels under current discussions.
King are great folk, this wasnt a jab at them at all, wasnt a jab at anyone, just letting ya know the mod doesnt work for all races, and NMM not Beth made the rule modders are not allowed to make patches for 'paid' mods. So if there is a race you want, gotta hope for King to make a patch, and theres a long list of races they have yet to do, if they ever do.
