Why is modding so addictive?
I keep adding more and more mods even after i make a promise that i will stop and play the games with the mods i currently have.

Because the game is boring and unbalanced otherwise.
I wanted to write similar topic recently... i kept modding like a week straight. No playing the game, just searching, googling and mod compatibility testing... it almost took my sanity, i was depressed. But after Volkriinator Black, i stopped because it was enough. Now i am happy with mods i have.
I've never been obsessed with mods, mind you, but I knew what I wanted added to this game and searched for it. Not all at once either. I got ideas as I played the game, and after multiple mod build attempts, I finally finished everything up.

I'll still keep an eye out for any interesting mods, but I'm done adding mods in, for now.

This is why I don't dare manually modding Bethesda games anymore. Thank god for Wabbajack! Installed an entire modlist while I was at work earlier this week. 3500+ mods, zero compatibility testing and troubleshooting
Deletes game. Tells myself I quit modding. Not even 10 minutes later~ reinstalling skyrim se, download AE cc items. Pulls out my cc, buy nexus premium. Regret it later. It never ends.
Compulsive modder here. I definitely have modders greed/curse. I can't stop tinkering. Part of it there is too much choice available which is inherently a good thing however.

From a basic premise the mods make a great game even better as there is many to choose from you can literally tailor the game to exactly your style whatever that maybe.

What frustrates me however and yet still suckers me in every single time, is I finally get happy with whatever setup I have at a given point, then someone talented publishes a new game changing mod of some description.

3500+ mods is insane... but next time i may try that as well. Did your installation reached over 100Gb with that? :)

Actually ~500GB total but that includes the downloaded (archived/zipped) mod files that you can safely delete after installation. I've tried a list in the past that reached almost 1TB lol. This list is definitely the best I've ever tried hands down though. Looks incredible and as you can imagine an insane amount of new mechanics and content. It's all built around Requiem with some additional tweaks (and can be tweaked further via MCM). Check it out:

I haven't used any of the Wabbajack lists before. I am assuming its similar to downloading a mod pack on nexus? Any recommendations for a good complete pack that is controller friendly and not too inundated with "adult" mods?

In my experience Wabbajack lists are far better than nexusmods collections through Vortex. Most if not all of the Wabbjack most lists for Skyrim use Mod Organizer 2 instead of Vortex (might be a requirement even) which imo is better than Vortex anyway. I've been playing through the Lorerim list and it's pretty awesome. Also has great controller support. There's even a community Steam Input controller map specifically for that list.

This sounds wonderful! Stress free modding? I have to try Wabbajack!
I play while i mod. I have added around 400 mods and my save still works. I think the general rule of not doing this is half bs. Install new mod, test see if anything is ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Also check mod description for if its a issue not using a new game. Also depends on type of mods your using. Another big thing is mod dev hygiene i think has improved. Stuff with issues has alternative patches to fix them now, HDT smp replaced by faster hdp smp, faster and more features. So I am playing while i mod if my save gets destroyed it will be annoying but i will just restart a new save.
