Anniversry Edition
I've recently tried modding, but nothing really works.

I have refunded Skyrim in the past due to my device not being able to handle it, however I have bought a new copy due to me upgrading my PC.

I previously purchased the Skyrim Anniversary Edition, however my new install was just the basic Special Edition.
When I launched the game, it let me download the Anniversary Edition and Creator Club content, and also wouldn't let me use any mods for Special Edition. This really confused me, as I didn't currently own the Anniversary DLC. Did I just get the DLC for free? :stardog:

I want to know the community's thoughts on this.

The creation club stuff once registered as being bought is always registered as being bought, they didn't think about people refunding stuff, which you couldn't when it was buy via the creation club, so they didn't bother to create a mechanism for deregistering it's purchase.... given the AE has been out for some time now, they can't fix this issue.

My guess is that you refunded the game but NOT the Anniversary Upgrade DLC (I don’t even know if you can).

As the DLC is unusable without the main game, it doesn’t really matter to BGS if you still own it without the base game.

Thus, when you re-purchased Special Edition you got access to the AU DLC again.

As for your mods, Im assuming you’re talking about those free ones which you downloaded off the in-game mods page.

The Creation Club and the in-game mods page got completely redone and are now combined into an in-game platform called Creations.

Creations has some new standards and guidelines for both paid and free mods, and the game has been updated a number of times since you likely last played it.

Thus, whatever mods you had could very well have not made the jump to Creations. They may have been abandoned by the creators and never updated and removed from the platform, the creators may have removed them themselves, or you may just need to re-find and re-download them through Creations.

A reasonable guess, but they might have refunded the AE as well, the way they did the creation club, it unlocks the creations for you, but they didn't think to create a system for locking the creations back up if you refund the AE...

I have seen too many threads were people did refund the AE, then were finding that the game was still treating it as if they have AE, so for me there is no doubt, they don't relock the CC stuff.... Which is frankly typical of Bethesda.

Yes. There's a bug with the anniversary edition dlc and the Bethesda creation club download. When you purchase the dlc your Bethesda account now owns the dlc. If you refund the dlc through Steam, they will refund you but you will still be able to download the anniversary edition dlc from Bethesda creation club store with your account.
The Bethesda store doesn't get the memo that your account doesn't own the dlc anymore

So which SKSE should I use?

I would also like to add that in-game it displays the version as 1.6.1170

Use the version that says:
Current Anniversary Edition build 2.2.6 (game version 1.6.1170)

Well given that the Creation Club requires the latest version to download the CC mods, I would say the latest version of the AE version of SKSE64.

That's because it's the latest version, not because it's AE by the way, the SE version is for version before 1.6.

Does this mean most mods now work with AE edition? As I saw a lot of reviews saying everything is broken and I am dubious about getting the upgrade.

Your game is the current game version (1.6.1170) whether you own the Anniversary Upgrade DLC or not.

All the DLC is is just that: DLC - it’s extra content and goodies.

It’s not a new/different version of the game.

Ok good to know, lots of stuff saying it breaks mods on the AE store page.
SpeedFreak1972 Jul 15, 2024 @ 12:59am
Well I wouldn't worry too much about that yes certain mods haven't been updated that said I run over 800 mods on the latest AE (including CC) the only things I don't have are the latest CC
