Marriage doesn't work?
I played the original Skyrim so much back in the day, recently my PC broke so I booted up Special Edition on the Steam Deck.

Back on PC, I speak to Maramal, ask about marriage and buy the amulet of Mara but I'm able to ask any of the available NPCs to marry me (after completing their quests). Anyone know whats going on?

you're "cutting the line" so to speak; take the amulet off, talk, then get sent to get amulet, cept you already got it.., just remember who's game your're playing, and that there's a slew of bugs related to this, in case I'm wrong... here's the notes and bugs section on UESP: https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Marriage#Notes

Thanks - I have the unofficial patch installed, but I guess it doesnt work as well with SSE as it does standard game

I managed to get to the actual ceremony, BUT now it just doesn't let me progress. Tried everything (including murdering everyone as you can see here...)

I think if all fails, revert to a save before the ceremony and use this console command after clicking on your desired NPC
addtofaction 19809 1

this should add a married character to you according to google. Does this work for you?

EDIT: You may have to also set your relationship rank
so after clicking on your desired npc before adding to faction do this:
setrelationshiprank player 4

It's not a good suggestion to use console commands. It will skip quest stages in the main marriage quest and its subquests.
