Laughing in confusion at FPS tied to physics

But i can play games made before it no issues at higher frame rates just seems like a weird choice

Seems like a weird choice cuz, as you just said, its a choice yeah, but most importantly its a choice you can make ONLY NOW, not back then.
At the time something like that wasn't even a possibility for the average machine, ps3 for sure weren't capable of doing that, and the pcs able to do that weren't too common so they had no reason to even test what would happen at higher fps.

FPS isn't only tied to physics, but also to the Papyrus Virtual Machine. Stay at max 60 FPS with this game. This game isn't a first person shooter! What's the problem? You can even run a smooth running game at 30 FPS. Skyrim Creation Engine hasn't been designed to run over 60 FPS.

Probley not related but I still remember in the mid 90's when the ?Pentium Pro? or something came out and i had to run a program called Moslo to allow my games to run well. Basicly it added cycles to your CPU to something or something (I can't remember anything anymore).

That's beyond being unrelated, this ain't even the correct forum for that kinda stuff O_o

DOSBox still does, and there are many games that run on it available on Steam, such as Dungeon Keeper...
Fun fact; The Main Menu was tied to 24fps when that game (DK) was made, and because of that, the whole game was tied to that fps as well....

---

Most screens back in 2006-11 when this game was being made, were 60HZ. Higher was a rarity, and 75HZ was pretty much it. Anything higher than that was practically unheard of for the mass market.
They would have existed, sure, but your average consumer didn't have one. CRT's were still a big thing back then....

The main reason most people do alot of things. It was way easier to cap it at 60, and someone else already pointed out, not many monitors were higher than that.

I actually would take a crt if they still built them. But they are more expensive to produce than a lcd screen. But im a brute, a 50lb monitor is nothing to me.

There are alot of plus's to a crt...

https://www.vice.com/en/article/kz4gqm/why-this-20-year-old-crt-monitor-is-better-than-a-4k-lcd

The latter option might not be as ill-advised as it seems. Within PC gaming circles, some people insist that cathode ray tube monitors, despite their lower resolutions, smaller screens, and considerable bulk, are superior for games because they respond to input faster and have less motion blur than LCDs. Although this argument's been floating around for years, it just got a new wave of attention from Eurogamer's Digital Foundry, which recently created a video extolling the outdated display tech.

"Today's premium-priced gaming LCDs are trying very hard to recapture CRT's major benefits—low latency, high refresh rates and reduced input lag—but as good as many of these screens are, for our money nothing beats a good old-fashioned cathode ray tube display for desktop gaming—not even the very best LCD screens on the market," Digital Foundry editor Richard Leadbetter wrote.

Just sayin.

Video they are referencing.

lmao
Without properly adjusted frametimes it's nowhere near as smooth. The only game I can tolerate being capped at 30 FPS is Dark Souls PTDE, again, because of adjusted frametimes for it to feel smooth enough.

Because it was the simplest way to structure the code and at the time it didn't seem to need more frames per second

in older games the FPS was used as a measure of the speed of the computer, and so by tying physics to it you got the physics the computer could handle... Then computers got faster, and higher FPS became the thing to have, irrelevant of whether it actually benefitted you, and that model broke....

It was being used fairly widely when they started making Skyrim, and Bethesda simply didn't bother to change it....

Or was that a rhetorical question?

Im hoping they bother to change it in the new update of fallout 4 it looks so jitter on any high refresh rate monitor and they have re-released this title many times and never thought to change it :/

SSE Display Tweaks for Skyrim SE and High FPS Physics Fix for FO4 exist for a reason.
Don't let "trusted regulars" piss in your ears with their outdated info from 10 years ago.
Yeah, run the game at 24 FPS since the human eye can't see more than 24 FPS anyway, right? It's not a shooter so what's the problem?
