(Anniversary Update) Some animals are missing movement animations. I can't figure out why
I only have SKSE and SkyUI installed.
I've been playing the new update on a completely vanilla save for about a dozen hours without issues, but after installing the new SKSE preliminary build and SkyUI (which seems to be working as intended) I've noticed that a few animals lost their movement animations, while the idle animations play normally. So far I've identified cows, elks and wolves to have this problem, goats and chickens aren't affected.

Does anyone else have this problem? I've searched on google but most posts are years old and with completely unrelated causes, such as fnis and other mods I don't have.

The problem seems to be with SKSE; Loading my save without it solved this issue. If anyone has any insight to share I'd appreciate it.

FNIS Creature Pack has been known to cause that problem. I had a similar problem but included bears, wolves and dragons. Didn't affect horses. Uninstalling it fixed the problem.

I think I'm having a similar issue. Did a fresh install after anniversary edition and it seems, at the very least, horses have lost all movement. No idle animations, nothing. They don't move, they are simply doing the horse equivalent of a T-pose wherever they spawned. Had to download USSEP and Alternate Start from the in-game mods to bypass the intro sequence the horses attached to the carts (and therefore the carts) weren't moving.

Are you using SKSE?

When you say animals are not moving, I assume that, for example, the tails on horses are stuck straight out and the horses do not move at all?

Try running FNIS and clicking on the De-Install Creatures button immediately below Update FNIS Behavior button. The problem of frozen animals can happen if an animation for creatures was removed or changed for some reason. If after running de-installing Creatures, and running FNIS, the creatures should no longer be frozen, and then you can re-install Creatures again.

This is a common problem - and with many mods that apply creature animations not working due to the update, I imagine that is a cause of this problem now.

I wish people would just chill for a while and let the modders do their work... Its going to be a while before all the issues are sorted out, plus i am pretty sure Bethesda will release another patch or two anyway to fix various things, then SKSE will need to be updated again anyway lol...

Thanks for the answers, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Again, to be clear: I do not have fnis installed. Just SKSE and SkyUI. As I stated on my second post, the problem was SKSE.

I can only assume it's an issue with the latest version released and there's nothing else I can do but wait until a more stable release. Since then I've reverted to an older save and kept playing vanilla.

Still, I'd appreciate to hear of anyone playing on the Anniversary update using the compatible SKSE release if they experienced similar issues.

Just an FYI, I had to manually delete the FNISCreatureVersion.pex file from Scripts, even after using the FNIS uninstall function. Previously only horses were moving. After the FNIS uninstall of the Creature Pack, deer, dragons, foxes, chickens and horses were moving normally, but Ice Wraiths weren't moving. Haven't run into one since the manual uninstall. I did run the FNIS generator afterwards. I'm using an old vanilla save from 2017 w/o probs other than w/some Papyrus and JConatiner dependent mods. I used another old save to test some mods and didn't have any problems.
