quest not triggering

I think its called unquiet the dead? So I cant seem to find any info on this online, but today I started an new play through, upon arriving at goldenhills plantation, and defeating the ghost the quest did not trigger. I did not realize this so I have to many auto saves to be able to roll back to a point before entering the farm, can I force the quest to begin or complete somehow?

So I should have been more clear in the original question, I have done this quest before just 2 days ago on a different save. I didn't grab anything out of order or go to the well straight away. I walked up to the farm, defended myself from the ghost, read the note and went inside. Where I screwed up is that despite fallowing the same route and steps that I had 2 days ago on the old save, this new character didn't get the quest triggered and due to not realizing this my earliest auto save was entering the house.

I haven't actually done the quest yet. I was searching google for where to find the fish for the fishing quest when that was one of the options. I bookmarked it for when I do the quest.

Did you add any mods? The link says there is some issues with some of the mods. It may have named the mods but I don't do mods, so I didn't pay attention to that part.

Eta; I don't know any console commands, sorry.

I don't have any mods installed either, I assumed they would be broken when the anniversary update came out. I wasn't to far in so I just restarted again.
