Warhammers
Does anyone use warhammers? What are your thoughts on them? They seem like the black sheep of Skyrim's weapons. Searching for warhammer leads to big majority of discussions here about a game called "Warhammer" instead of the weapon itself.

They are ok, like most of the weapons it more about the enchantment than the weapon itself.

The only decent pre-enchanted warhammer I can think of is Nerve-shatter, which is from a CC mod. after that it's you enchanting a warhammer, and it's probably going to be an elemental damage enchantment paired with the chaos enchantment.

They work fine, you just have to get used to the swing timings to swat weaker Bandits and such with.
For anything with serious HP, use the Weapon Bash (same keys as Shield Bash) to interrupt an enemy + standing Power Attack to literally crush everything. Same way you use a Greatsword or Battleaxe, really.

The armor-ignore perk isn't particularly useful as most enemies wear light armor and thus have low armor rating + high HP anyway, but it's nice for the camp leaders who often wear heavy. Not sure that it affects creature armors like Dragons, Dwarven Automatons, etc. but the Greatsword and Battleaxe unique perks are trash as well so there's not much point investing into the unique perks.

Hey. It is my weapon of choice. For me it is the stagger effect that comes with each successful power attack is what makes it good. Nerveshatter is good early game due to the high shock damage that comes with it. In order to get it early game is a different matter. Those Seducers & their counter part are no walk in the park until your Heavy Armor rating is high enough to soak their damage. However best starter kit for me is Volendrung. The requirement is not so high. can get the job done with a good supply of invisibility/paralysis potion/ mid sneak & archery skill. All over you get a full suit of Orcish Armor. Coupled with the right Heavy Armor perks you'd be a beast. Stagger & go behind them, wait for the enemy to get up & stagger again. Also due to its high usage of soul gems, it helps with enchanting. With the soul squeezer perk you'll be okay.

Don't be daunted with the bandit chiefs or high level enemies that go mini gun with their shield. Just bring a good supply of Paralysis poison. No need to power attack them to use it effectively. Just need to hit them for the poison to work. When they are helpless then it is time for your character to shine. Best WH is Daedric. Best Heavy Armor Rating is Daedric. Once I am able to dual enchant then this is my weapon. Nerveshatter can be placed on my weapon rack. Max out the 2 H initial perk + Ignore armor + stamina reduction for Power Attack then you are good to go. Good luck.

Warhammmers and maces feel too slow to me, I stick to swords as I like the speed.

Thank you guys for the thoughts and advice on them. I'll give them a shot on my next playthrough.
