Why isn't there more games like Skyrim?
Skyrim gives the player so much freedom in every aspect, other games restrict players a lot. Even Starfield is extremely limiting and that's a Bethesda game, are they not learning from their previous successes?

Yea, I wonder this myself.

Imo, I think that it's mainly due to the developers of other games wanting to force the player to playthrough their storyline, that really hurts their open world design. If it isn't that though, then it's often the utter limit of side content in many of the newer AAA games. Heck, even something as simple as sitting down is often ignored in AAA games.

Along with the freedom to enjoy the world though, vanilla Skyrim's actual world is also filled to the brim with content, and as such, is unfortunately not something that I see in very many other games - AAA, Indie, or otherwise. There's just a major scope difference in-between The Elder Scrolls and other games imo, and that's what sets the series apart from the competition.
If they want to force someone down a storyline they should just write a book instead.
Yep, I agree .

They don't all do this, but more often than not there's push for the player to play through the story.

This is why I'm still not burned out in Skyrim 12 years later and 10,500+ hours.

It was made with passion, commitment and labor.

I was expecting Starfield to do the same, but well how will I say it in a less salty way. " stuff happens."

well, the biggest issue i see: most devs/publisher think they have to shine with best grafics/visuals and especially their rpg´s need the biggest map ever. they have to outdo their competitiors and gain the most possible sales with mentioned topics. they are puting to much efort and money in this things and need to cut other things down becouse of it.

but thats not what i (the gamer) want. i want games like skyrim or fallot 4. these games are perfect in my opinion. including the mod community. this games got me busy for a decade.
just think about it. thats such a huge achivement. most games worldwide arent able to compete. just a few games to compare: i played WOW for 2 or 3 years, cyberpunk 77 for less than 100h, RDD2 just for a bit over 100h, KINGDOM COME maybe over 200h...

i dont need the newest high end visuals or the biggest map i ever saw but maybe almost empty. i want the ability to be creative in my playthroughs.

but game devs dont get it.

best example from the latest past is BOOZE MASTERS from ASMODEV. they developed this game for ca.3 years. i played the demo where the mc was a fresh released prisoner who tried to build up his own mooneshine brewery hidden in the woods. i had to build/repair, plant and harvest my ingredients, brew and sell the moonshine. i had the ability to decide what ingrediants i want to use and this led to different brewing results. i was hyped, i liked it.
ASMODEV decided it was boring. they deleted almost everthing and developed in 2 more years a storey driven game which took all decissions from the player. now you have to do one to-do ("quest") after another. you cant choose... game is done in ca 2,5h.
its the biggest fail i saw in years... they gained almost no sales^^ idiots need to learn.

Starfield was a wet fart of a game.
