But you are still lucky..
The Steam Deck is not even sold in my country.
*cries on the PC keyboard*
Second-hand gadgets have been a bad experience for me, so I tend to steer clear of them.
On the PC, Racemenu works for me if I just enable Racemenu.esp in Vortex. I don't need to enable RacemenuPlugin.esp as (if I recall correct) Racemenu doesn't work if it is enabled. I think RacemenuPlugin.esp is for some legacy purpose. Even LOOT says RacemenuPlugin.esp is optional.
Does SKSE work for you on the steam deck?
If you launch the game, open the console window and run the command: SKSE,
does it show the SKSE version number?
Racemenu requires SKSE.
To avoid this issue, you simply need to open the file "Skyrim Special Edition/Data/SKSE/Plugins/EngineFixes.toml" in a text editor. Find the [Patches] section, then locate the line EnableAchievementsWithMods and change the value to false.
If using MO2, you would find the config file in the mods install folder. In MO2 its right click, open in explorer and just find file, edit that line to false.
Yes, that relative/friend approach will work, and I did think to try it, but then I withheld the urge.
To be honest, I am already partially addicted to gaming (I mean I can go days or weeks without gaming, but sometimes I dream about some recent game, so does that count as addiction? LOL), so to save my sanity, I am avoiding being desperate to get hold of the Steam Deck,
Did you try this?
@[A's Will] Sam: Go ahead and play the game without racemenu, if you can.
You can later fix the racemenu installation, and inside the game you can tweak your character appearance using ShowLimitedRaceMenu console command (as that's safer than the ShowRaceMenu command). Or use the Vanity Mirror mod, it works well on all the game versions.
