So the IP will not be given to Larian.... who have said they aren't doing any fantasy games for a while anyway.
Still not as bad as the Alpaca debate in The Outer Worlds though....
In the case of Bethesda, they also pushed for some actual QC which is why Starfield, despite all it's shortcomings, is one of the least buggy games in Bethesda's history.
So MS will step in if a problem is bad enough but it takes something horribly embarrassing like Bethesda's abhorrent levels of QC.
Obsidian is just as risky as Bethesda. Their last big title 'Outer Worlds' was well done, but criminally average. And people love FO:NV, but few actually talk about how god awful it was at launch. It took them a long time to patch out most of the load crashes, enemy glitches, and broken questlines. So just because they made an eventually good FO game, doesn't mean that they'll succeed.
Realistically, I think Bethesda is going to be a lot better going forward. You have to remember that the majority of their failures in the last 7ish years have been the influence of Zenimax trying to forcibly beef it's market value. Even Starfield, though released under MS, was developed primarily under this pressure.
It's not a total excuse, and they'll have some hurdles to jump, but I like to think the dark times are behind us.
