Help Needed. Can't give follower weighted item.
Suddenly I can't give Rayya (Falkreath Housecarl) any item with weight. Trade menu shows, but any weighted item is grey, cannot be traded and no message or anything shows when trying.

I'm sure Rayya's inventory is empty (showinventory shows nothing). I also check her carry weight (getav carryweight show 300). I use Nether's Follower Framework, Eldergleam modlist in fact. I try dismiss Rayya, disable and enable her, restart follower quest in NFF, nothing comes out of it. Additional storage and outfit in NFF still works fine, other followers fine too.

Don't know what to do next, so please show some kind heart and help. Any information and lead may be appreciated.

============================= Update =============================

After fiddling with old saves, I found the problem only happen after Rayya lose her scimitar, or scimitars. By spawning another one into her inventory, problem kind of solved. Besides, Rayya's weapon of choice seems tie to how many scimitar she have. If she have one scimitar, she will use one one-hand weapon; If she have two, she will dual wield. Can't say that's a vanilla mechanism or is introduced by NFF.

What happens if you use "openactorcontainer" on Rayya?

What does it mean that the additional inventory is working fine? Is it empty? Followers can put clothes there. In the menu, this is a separate line from the simple transfer items. You can also target the NPC and write "inv" in the console. This will show a list of items. After that, you can remove items from his inventory with the command "removeitem (id) (amount)".

By "additional inventory is working fine" I mean I can put item in here, not like the normal inventory. I try console command showinventory and inv, only found her default outfit, nothing else.

It's the same as using trade dialog. Everything with a weight in my inventory is grey and cannot be transferred to her.

Found on Reddit. You can try.

You can reset their carrying capacity with the following 3 commands (with your follower as the target):

removeallitems

disable

enable

Be sure to remove any equipment you've given her before doing this, as it will otherwise be lost.

@ OP you can try it but do ensure to have a game save in prior to that. This may reset the scripting. Instead of doing the above, I would suggest to run the following command instead. It will move all of the inventory content of the targeted NPC to your inventory
removeallitems player

If it did not help, you can revert to your game save.

But the question is more ... since you have NFF, I am not wondering if you're using that special inventory mechanism. NFF comes with a manual (as a pdf file) about the inventory management. Maybe you have a different setting for Rayya?

Sorry for the late reply. I tried the codes mentioned but with no effect. Seems to me this isn't just a carry weight problem: 1. I can be sure her inventory is empty, including her default inventory and those added by NFF; 2. No message like "this item is too heavy to carry" pop up when I try to give her something; 3. I reload a save before I give her current weapon, still can't give her anything. Maybe some script broke?

Try rolling Nether's Follower Framework back to version 2.8.5. I found that the current version made trading equipment to followers difficult.

Happens when you remove scimitars for whatever reason. I don't know if there's an easier way to reset her, but I used resetai, then kill, then resurrect, and it put the scimitars back. Could trade with her after.

I actually found the reason behind this not long after I made this post.

In the vanilla game, Rayya have two 1×scimitar records instead of one 2×scimitars record in her default inventory, which seems to related to vanilla dual-wielding for NPC. USSEP fixes it, but in Bijin the fix is reversed due to the lack of a proper patch for USSEP. Then Scrambled Bugs, a mod based on USSEP somehow tweaks the dual-wielding mechanism. Thus a bug is created. As long as Rayya doesn't have two separate scimitars in her inventory, her inventory is locked.

There is actually a mod to fix this:
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/74552

Or you can just edit Rayya's default inventory record in Bijin.esp using xEdit, this is easy.
