Worth it for Wabbajack?
I've done plenty of modding in the past, but my interest in both playing and modding Skyrim has gone down over the past few years.

However, Skyrim SE is currently on sale and it allows you to use Wabbajack which auto installs a bunch of mods.

I think if I could just install my mods with a click of a button, it might make things more enjoyable. At the end of the day. It's still the same old skyrim so maybe it won't make a difference idk.

The issue with any collection is that it's only as good as the person compiling it, and from what I've seen most are thrown together without proper care and caution.

Oh, ok. Thanks for the info. I also noticed some of them require Anniversary edition so I wouldn't even be able to use those.

Still. $7 is the cheapest SE has ever been. I'm just not too keen on buying a game I already own.

In my opinion SE is worth it for the 64 bit engine upgrade.

Not exactly true you need a subcribe to nexus for the automatic part.
also you need to buy the extra DLC's because many lists "request it"

the lists are hard to adjust can be done but your save time by making your own list.

The only reason a mod collection or third-party installer 'requires' a Nexus subscription is for the uncapped download speeds. Otherwise it would take all day for some large collections to complete. A subscription isn't necessary and is entirely up to the individual's discretion.

Although, I agree that someone interested in a collection or installer needs to review the descriptions and forum posts to confirm whether the requirements are met and if it is even worthwhile.

It is so easy to install mods without something like Wj that it would be shame not to try it before completely discounting the option.

And it is far better, at least in my experience, to curate your own mod list. Many 'pre-assembled' lists are, as others have pointed out, bloated and seemingly just thrown together.

A big thing is that you need to pay close attention to size. Some of those WJ modlists are 600+ gb.

if you found it for 7 bucks it really is worth it for modding.

I'm going to necropost, but screw it. Wabbjack is trash. I've attempted to use it dozens of times with absolutely no luck. Every single mod list I've downloaded with it fails to install.

Yeah. Threads probably going to get locked unfortunately, but thanks for the info. I did end up buying Skyrim SE and it was partially due to that option.

It seems some loadouts say they require the Anniversary edition so maybe you had the wrong version of skyrim idk.

mod packs dont always work , plus Nexus has had collections that you can download as well , wabbajack auto download is nothing new and just hype by MA's that got pissed at Nexus for introducing the collections in the first place. <( this is why there are so many mod sites now)
i wouldnt trust wabbajack when it comes to mods and my personal security. Nexus is a far better choice and if you use Vortex it makes things even easier to use. plus has been around alot longer.
The only wabba it's jacking is your storage space
Necroing the Necro-post. Whoops?

I've used Wabbajack and I've use Vortex collections.
As a general observation, for me, Wabbajack tends to be more reliable and quicker than a comparably sized Vortex Collection.

Wabbajack modlists almost ALWAYS created a "portable" version of the game that doesn't mess with your original install. So, you can run multiple wabbajack lists without having to do the excruciatingly painful "switch profile" that Vortex does.

Most of them work without a hitch, too. Or if they do have a hitch, rerunning wabbajack and telling it to start over (it will generally preserve existing progress) will get you where you need to be,

Lists I've tried with no problems:
Tempus Maledictum
LoreRim
Alypne
Wioldlander
Phoenix Flavor

If you plan on trying more than one modlist - keep a separate folder outside of the modlist install folder to keep you mods in. Many of them will overlap. Why download SkyUI twice?

Also - make sure you're using an SSD. Or it will take freaking forever.
Most of the modlists will run on an external SSD if it's fast enough, but installs will take a while because even fast USB has a bandwidth limit which is used by both reading and writing.
