Should ı downgrade the game to 1.6.640 before modding?
I hear some mods dont work with the newest version.Does it make sense to downgrade it?

Are you new to modding? If so my suggestion would be to work with the latest build or whichever you have currently installed. Most mods will work with any version. The only mods which are troublesome are those which are SKSE mods that have dll files. There aren't that many in the grand scheme of things.

The only time I would suggest 1.6.640 is if you also own the GOG version as you can easily revert to their equivalent version or you are adept at modding.

Depends on what you want. There's no real answer to this. It's subjective on a per-person-basis.

Some things like SkyUI and some other UI mods won't work properly on the newest version without applying some third-party fixes due to changes on how the UI works. And well, I like my UI mods a lot.
Some mods won't work at all, but most mods work fine with any version, but if you're someone like me, a lot of your mods require SKSE and some don't even update anymore, and changing game versions adds nothing anyways, and there's not enough "new mods" that stand out quite yet that requires the newer version that warrant updating. Even the new CC content works perfectly fine on the older versions of Skyrim since they are just mods themselves at the end of the day, if you're really into paid mods that Bethesda hasn't even bothered to proof reading and correcting the "Engrish" within each creations' notes.

So if you want to use mods that require an update, then update. If you want to use mods that work on the older version, then don't update. If you want both, then you're going to have to pick and choose if no third-party fixes are available.

No, don't downgrade. It only makes sense if you have a favorite mod which isn't compatible with the newest version. Or, if you forgot to lock the updates and your well-maintained mod list got bricked, but you're too lazy to update them all.

I'm not new to modding no and my mod list is fairly simple with mostly essentials(JK's,AI Overhaul,RDO,Serena dialogue etc)The main reason I want to downgrade is one of my mods require "Address Library for SKSE Plugins" and apparently that mod is bugged with the newest game version.

It's not bugged, you just need to tweak the engine fixes a bit:

Fair point about you not being new to modding but I had no way to know. Recently many have been whining (by this I don't mean you) about the update but lets not go into that. Address Library has been updated for a while and thus almost any mod that references it will be fine also provided its upto date.

One last question, are these mods compatible with the latest version?Ai Overhaul,RDO,Serena Dialogue,JK's Skyrim and Audio Overhaul. Also the texture mods in general like flora overhaul etc.

SKSE is a different framework that provides things not available in the standard Skyrim, those mods need to be rebuilt to use AL or recompiled every single time a new Skyrim comes out, because a new SKSE will come out almost immediately. One tiny little edit, change 3 lines in a config, and AL is happy again, easy for even non-technical people, Alex directly linked you, even...

as Mug told in the first reply, any "standard" mod, that is to say, esp esm or esl, will be fine, these are content mods, they change or add textures, meshes, voices, physics, etc. within the standard CK-style structure of bethesda's modding definition. They're only version-dependent if they require certain commands that didn't exist in the previous editions or certain mods to already exist, that they pull content from or use their scripts. If one says it REQUIRES the AE CC content, and you only have the SE version even though your executable is AE too, it won't work. But that's it, standard prerequisite checking, that you should do on each mod's description page, they list requirements right there.

You'll be fine. But make sure you have more free time to tackle it than you need, just in case it goes wonky. Since you're not new to this, you know it's the unforeseen that wastes hours, not the planned.

Address Library is not bugged, I'm using it with some 25 SKSE DLL plugins in SSE version 1.6.1170. Just be sure you have all the correct DLL versions for your specific game version, although some may still not be updated. See the guide mentioned earlier.

10000% get a version that won't update, install your mods, play it for the next 3 years, it's problematic to no end coming back to play and having everything update and break on you multiple times then spending a good 15 hours fixing it again, and again, and again, and again..... why do they even update anymore? i don't understand why, modders fixed everything they could and more, please.... stop them updates.... i actually wish skyrim literally had that beta version drop down box that allowed me to select a version then stay on it forver......................... once you have a job, little time, so many many mods and basically need those 2 hours of your life to just be playing the game you want to play... you'll understand you need that no update version instead of the random updates they throw into the works twice a year now or more.

they can pay me $45 hourly for the amount of time they force me to use each time :c

Exactly man.I had my inital save ruined by an update and ı have been hesitant to mod it again ever since.

ah not really i have 1.6.640 (modded) and 1.6.130 (also modded) both works great
(running both with MCO, MCO dodge, Sexlab, Ostim standalone, LoTD, and Elden rim)

only find 1.5.97 running bad you can notice is not optimized.

yeah I retired my 097 profiles too, not that they don't run fine, they do, they're just so dated and finicky lately, that after living in 640 and 1130 (still not messing with 1170) you just have a lower tolerance for it.

but we're not the norm, Abisha. I mean listen to Cheers say "my initial save ruined" - he still thinks saves are important and useful. :possession: He wants to keep track of his progression. Who are we to ruin that? If he deep dives into modding, he'll arrive at just how disposable saves are, soon enough. If not, who cares right? So many ways to play so many variants of Skyrim.

Some days I wish I was "that" gamer, just one Skyrim install, just one mod set/profile of a curated collection or wabbajack, zero effort on my part and locked in stone, and all the rest just ignored... cause it takes up a lot of time, sure I enjoy the technical stuff too cause that's just me, but not all of it is "free" time, cause as always, Thanatos venit. Nyx's child will darken everyone's doorstep soon enough.
