Ebony Blade not tracking friendly kills
I've currently killed Stevnar (Merc from Windhelm who I sacrificed for the Boethiah quest with the Ebony Blade), Erandur (killed him with it when it was needed during the Daedric quest he was in), and a Horse I bought (wiki says animal companions work). Mephala hasn't said ♥♥♥♥ since I got her sword, and the console command for tracking friendly kills with the blade said 0. I likely won't try again since it's not related to a quest or achievement, but I've sacrificed three 'friends' to the Ebony Blade and the game hasn't recognized it.

stevnar should have counted.
Erandur would only have counted AFTER the quest.
And of course the horse never counted, because it's not a friend it's a mount... Meeko would work, not sure about other animals.

Read that Erandur at the end of the Daedric quest he's in and horses would work, but the whole weapon charging 'quest' seems to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ for me so I'm not sure I'll try charging it anymore. If I do try again, I'll focus on Mercs and Beggars but I doubt it'll work since not even the guaranteed charge from Stevnar got tracked when I used the Ebony Blade to sacrifice him at the start of the Boethiah quest.

And this is what I read about animals in a list of acceptable sacrifices to the Ebony Blade: “Animal companions, including owned horses and Meeko from Meeko's Shack.”

Well something is wrong, but I always thought horses didn't count unless a mod changed it.

Can’t even try it anymore anyway because it disappeared from its weapon rack in Hendrahiem, which also means I can’t get the Oblivion Walker achievement now. Have no idea when it disappeared because i remember putting it away but just now noticed it was gone. However, Hendrahiem is bugging out for me so I’ll probably transfer my Daedric Artifacts out of it so I don’t lose others. I’m also gonna check vendors just in case but I highly doubt I sold it.

Gonna lose several hours of progress but I'm gonna bite the bullet and revert back to the last save I had the weapon on me. Should only lose 4 levels and half a dozen quests but its whatever. I'm trying to get all 75 achievements in one run, dammit lol

If it's the achievement you're after, why bother upgrading the Ebony Blade? You don't have to upgrade the blade to get the Oblivion Walker achievement.

Thought it would be fun to do while working on the other stuff…Also, I must admit, I think I forgot it wasn’t an achievement at one point.

Never put anything you want to keep on a weapon rack. Even if it doesn't just outright disappear, it can have the enchantments stripped off of it. Weapon and armor racks do not work properly. The armor racks aren't as bad as the weapon racks. All they do is sometimes move around and can also duplicate the armor you put on them.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love the mannequins. Had one dupe the unique set of dragon armor you can get from the Crowstooth area. At least, I think the name is Crowstooth…I’m too lazy to look it up right now.
The CC homes (including Hendraheim) are notoriously buggy and items disappearing off of racks is a commonly reported bug along with a whole host of other things. I would advise against using it in the future.

Yeah…currently have a permanent dragon corpse there and Serana once froze just outside of it. Sadly, I don’t know where to store everything cause Breezehome is a terrible place to store things in since there isn’t enough storage areas for you to keep things organized. Myrwatch is a place I keep forgetting about. I’m still building the custom Hearthfire DLC homes, and I don’t know if the Tundra Homestead will have the same issues as Hendrahiem.

While they may or may not be more buggy than the default homes, the issues with weapon racks and armor racks effect all of them, including the ones in the homes that came with the base game.

Tsk, tsk... Why are you killing your friends and followers?

https://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/57105/who-can-i-safely-kill-with-the-ebony-blade
Befriend anyone (such as http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Beitild) who is a Dark Brotherhood assignment. Use Dead Thrall and kill them again and again and again. That way, you complete the Dark Brotherhood Quest and complete the Ebony Blade

See here:
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Ebony_Blade_Victims

Any NPC with a relationship value [disposition] of 1, 2, or 4 [friend, confidant or lover] will power up the blade when slain with it...

- UESP wiki, on the Ebony Blade[uesp.net]

Here's what I do to power it up, without getting any of the regular named NPCs killed:

I murder* multiple clones of my spouse (through the player.placeatme <object/base ID> console command) to power up the Ebony Blade. Each time you enter the player.placeatme <object/base ID> console command, you spawn one copy of the NPC whose object/base ID you have targeted.

This should work even with non-spouse, killable (non-essential) NPCs, as long as they are a friend, confidant or lover. To know an NPC's disposition towards you, use the getrelationshiprank player (while NPC is targeted) or player.getrelationshiprank <target NPC refID> console commands. All spouses are lovers, that's why I'm sure that their clone's deaths will power up the Ebony Blade.

It is best to spawn clones of the person you want to murder in a secluded area where no one else will see you and the clones (to avoid bounties and other NPCs ganging up on you upon witnessing you murdering someone). I prefer doing it in the testing area myself, where no NPC ever goes to. You can go there using the coc qasmoke console command. (You can also use the coc <cellname> console command to get out of the testing area.)

they're liabilities…and both of the ‘friends’ I slaughtered were for quests. As for the horse, they’re only useful for fast traveling when you’re over-encumbered.

Get NFF mod and some Horse management mod (even simple mod like Simplest Horses, or Horse Whistle). NFF adds hotkeyable player additional storage and follower additional storage, and those horse mods add horse inventory. Boom, you got free extra storage, wherever you go, and you no longer have to be overencumbered again.

Better yet, get the Bag of Trash mod, or Portable Mimic Item Recycler mod. They'll allow to instantly sell off or recycle the junk loot.

With the above mods, my main inventory has only my outfit, primary weapons and quest objects, nothing else.

I know some people don't like followers or pets in this game, but the follower or pet can serve as a tank and distraction, while you try out some interesting new spell or weapon.

e.g., try the Arachnomany mod, which overhauls the spider scrolls system that most players don't know about or have forgotten. Nothing more fun then throwing out explosive spider mines and meteor storms (Apocalypse mod) at unsuspecting enemies who are distracted by your follower and pet!
