DyndoLod requiring Update.esm be cleaned
It's refusing to generate because it wants me to clean the update.esm and a CC mod. I was always told and read that you shouldn't ever clean the update.esm because it can cause problems. I actually remember doing that at one point, by mistake, and borked my game so badly I had to deleted a lot stuff and re-download. Yea or Nay on doing what it wants?

You can clean Update.esm, just ignore the "wisdom" du jour. If you're afraid of harming your game, just make a copy of the .esm's you're fixing to clean so you can just copy them back if you feel they got broken.

I've never experienced a problem from cleaning a master file, even when four or five people were calling me foul names and questioning my ancestry for doing it. All the Bethesda games I play run solidly and smoothly and I've cleaned every master in all of them.

Do NOT clean any of the Master files or CC content! ANY information saying to do so is outdated by quite a number of years.

See the subsection Cleaning the Masters and Creation Club Content in the following:

You only need to run the "undelete" script in xEdit, it should never cause any trouble.
