Is stealth nerfed in SE?
This is my first playthrough of the SE. I only played vanilla till now.
I played dozens of times through the game and this is the first time archery and stealth feel weak. Detection feels higher on all enemies, even when it doesn't make sense.
Headshot bow shots with x3 stealth damage multiplied and 3/5 overdraw can't headshot an adept mage.
What the hell is going on?

No. Works fine. Most popular character build (you can google that) is Stealth Archer for a reason. It works and works really, really well.

I'd guess your issue is that your expectations are set too high based on other games you've played with stealth skills being way OP.

I can sneak up the back of a live dragon, an stand on it's head, unnoticed.

As I said I played through vanilla Skyrim dozens of times.
The bandits in Bleak Falls Barrow never got aggroed that fast and never searched this far in the crypt. I was usually able to get a headshot kill much more often. Now some enemies take 6-7 shots to kill.

at what level? Bumping into NPCs doesn't reveal your location at high stealth in SE? Is this a new bug?

at what level?

Damn good question. Definitely makes a difference. Oh and what difficulty level have you set your game to @Praefator ? That matters also.

Currently a level 15 Breton mage, playing on Adept. Went for the classic glass cannon mage/stealth archer. No mods.

I'm playing a high elf mage, melee stealth build and I'm having zero issues. Played since 2011, nothings changed.

I have to agree - I've been playing this game on and off with and without mods since its release on my old xbox 360 back in 2011. Stealth feels the same, I don't think it has been tweaked/changed.

stealth archery is absolutely useless against any strong enemy. Use 1 handed weapon with magic

I've never understood the hype around stealth archery builds. Even though I don't find sneaking around to be entertaining at all, I have tried my hand at being a stealth archer a few times. It isn't even a viable gameplay tactic, let alone the godly, all-powerful super hack it's made out to be. Between the game thinking you're shooting the ground/wall/whatever half the time, the ludicrous ninja dodge that Bethesda gave the NPCs, and the fact that even with stealth at lvl 100 enemies instantly detect me from halfway across Skyrim, oh, and the fact that arrows/bolts phase through the NPCs without doing damage annoyingly often, the whole concept of stealth archer can f off to oblivion as far as I'm concerned.

@R4andom, thats just it, you've "Tried your hand", which is to say, you've never built towards that specifically, since it requires full investment in the stealth tree.

Wack in the alc skill for both raising dam, and poisoning the arrows, an bob may not be ya uncle, but hey....

Imagine a potion that increases bow damage by 200%, now pair that with the full archery and stealth tree, + some nasty poisons.. an whilst ya at it, chuck in some jewellery with bow enhancements..

You obviously didn't read my whole post. I clearly stated that even with my stealth maxed out, being a so-called stealth archer is utterly useless.

U have to max out archery as well, and pair it with potions, jewellery and poisons, thats how u get the god like damage.

And this just further proves my point. Why bother having to invest in alchemy just to make being a stealth archer viable, when I can just grab a melee weapon, maybe upgrade it once or twice and I'm good to go. Also, you misspelled jewelry.
