perfect is hard to define....

LE has no updates, but is less stable for modding, and few new mods.
SE is more stable, has no memory limits, and plenty of newer mods, but gets updates that you need to protect against because a) they break mods, and b) they introduce new bugs even as they try to fix bugs previous updates introduced.

The current SE. If you're worried about updates breaking mods, simply lock the updates.

640 can accept the most mods. Of course getting a mod that is updated to 2024 you have to get a previous version. Of course this depends on what mods you're going for. The obscure ones are likely still stuck in 640. There might be a further back version but I don't know that one.

Or, move to GOG (640 and 659 is about the same anyway when it comes to modding).

Nice try, Todd, but I won't buy Skyrim yet again.

Let's do basic mathematics here;

7.50 on sale / (let's say we play Skyrim for 100 hours AT LEAST) = 0.075USD per hour. If that isn't worth it to get a no-forced-update DRM free version with optional offline install files for backup purposes, I don't know what is... ;)

Don't make me use the spray bottle, Todd.

sorry still grinning at imagining Alex spritzing TH in the face with a plant mister like a misbehaving cat... it makes me happy.

Nord since you ask a generic question you're gonna get generic answers - the serenity prayer edition... always stay with the most current edition, and try to cope with constant change by having the courage to update the mods you can, the acceptance of things beyond your control, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Skyrim 1.5.97, most say they have a version about it, most mods work fine on it?
Nordskull Mar 3, 2024 @ 12:43pm
I'm new to the field of modding and I don't understand if there are guides on how to update mods myself, I want to roll out all sorts of mods, mostly I prefer mods for weapons and armor and all kinds of mods that require scripts and so on, I'm not particularly interested
Nordskull Mar 3, 2024 @ 12:44pm
Although who am I exposing, I also want mods for body physics, armor plates and all that

No, that one is long since obsolete.

If you're new to modding, just use the most recent version.

False.

1.5.97 and 1.6.640 are the best versions for compatibility with older mods. All you need is this mod for cross-compatibility with mods released/updated for later versions:

If USSEP is your concern, here are direct links to the older versions:

USSEP (v4.2.5b) for SE 1.5.9.7

USSEP (v4.2.9a) for AE 1.6.640
