Forced to download anniversary edition every time I install game
So, ever since bethesda made the "Big Brain" choice to mess with the creation club menu and mod menu, I have been having this bug where after installing the game. It tries to download the anniversary edition despite me having it unchecked on the dlc section. The only work around I found is to alt tab and then close the game through steam. I want to just play vanilla because I feel like the new content is over bearing and a burden on the base game. Has anyone else seen this issue?

My game died in the update. I last played at the beginning of 2023 and now I've done a complete clear out of everything SSE related, I have a clean Vanilla game. But I want to MOD it.
Trouble is, Vortex told me that my old game version was 1.6.1170 which is supposed to be AE. And I've never had AE. Only SSE.
And because there's a big Bethesda logo over where the game version used to be, I'm having problems trying to figure out exactly which version of SSE is current.
So I might just backdate it to v1.6.640 and have done with it.
Even if you look at a new download of Skyrim in it's game folder, under the SSE launcher under details, it says that SSE is 1.6.1170. But I thought that was just for AE?

I don't know what's going on. It seems every time bethesda updates their games, they can't help but screw something up. All the update was, was a shop update and they can't help but screw it up somehow.

1.6.640, 1.6.1130, 1.6.1170: it's all Skyrimg Special Edition. Anniversary Edition gave a lot of confusion, when it is only a "marketing name" used for the additional Creation Club content.

barbarian, stop confusing AE and SE, that is content not version... the game version is the same, AE is just bundled mods

johnny, let it download, who cares? if you bought AE, you bought AE, but other than the main 4 that are integrated into SE which you really should leave alone; fish, curios, saint/seducer, survival... the rest of the .es? that start with "cc" you can just move out of Data into a holding directory, like "do not want" and it won't find nor try and use them.

edit: nevermind, you're confused too about SE/AE. :-)

ok, thanks I guess. I'm not confused about anything I know AE is just a content dlc containing creation club ♥♥♥♥. Don't talk down to me.

Death apporaxhes the problem with is automatically downloading as anniversary edition makes it impossible for people to play the together reborn mod to play Skyrim with friends so it does matter that it’s downloading without consent

The last time I was in creation clubs, I saw an option to disable. Not sure if it's for CC content or just featured mods. Worth checking out though.

Also keep in mind technically Bethesda don't have to take mods into account when updating their game

So I did sorta figure out a work around. You can disable creation club addons now.

saints and seducers additions are just ugly af and I don't want them in my game (same with bittercup). then there are OP weapons and armor from new npcs.
i'm very strict on myself when it comes to vanilla game balance. not to say vanilla is balanced but it's how I originally experienced the game; so this stuff being in the game just bothers me.

Can you share how? I have the same problem now, so annoying. every time I start the game I have to wait until redownload all Anniversary Edition contents (mods).
Sadly you have to download all the anniversary stuff and then go to "creations" and there should be an option labeled "Disable all" or "Uninstall all" in your library tab.
I've resorted to removing the anniversary edition upgrade from my account via Steam support.

You can add it back at anytime by going back to the support page for it, but it's removed from your account completely until you add it back.
