WTF? Markarth Guards Killing Me
WTF? I followed every prompt the game gave me, did exactly what it told me to do, but now the guards of Markarth are pi$$ed at me and I can't seem to get out of the city without them killing me. What kind of jackboot BS is this?

Is it the The Forsworn Conspiracy quest? Just sheath your weapon and go to prison, that's how it progresses.

I'm sure you don't mean I'm supposed to give in and go to jail as part of the questline! Surely THAT'S not what you're saying! Because what kind of crap is that? The game conditions us to defend ourselves from every aggressor, and now suddenly we're expected to know that, just this one time, we're supposed to give up?

You need to be in prison to complete that quest! You're supposed to get the Forsworn out of prison.

surely by now you would have figured out that there are certain times where the game goes against the grain?

gotta get locked up and meet with the forsworn on the inside.

These murderers deserve to die in prison! And so do the Silver-people (whatever their name is). But I guess if I'm going to escape I have to do what these prisoners say. I've really enjoyed this game up to this point, but it's impossible to overstate how much I HATE HATE HATE this questline! It's like the "First Contact" mission in Starfield: you get sucked into a situation that's rightly none of your damn business! I regret ever starting it.

Get the quest done, then come back with whatever your opinion is... You'll like the outcome.

just wait till you find out it will fail thieves guild quests lmao

things to not do in markarth:

enter for the first time during a thieves guild quest, (or just don't kill the forsworn at the gate lol,)

don't do the prison time during a thieves guild mission.

That doesn't justify railroading the player in a supposedly open world game.

But whatever, I'm done kvetching. Just going to get past it and move on, and hope there aren't too many more quests that railroad you in what has otherwise been an enjoyable game up to this point.

there are a few just like the older games.

"diplomatic immunity" helping delphine inflitrate the thalmor embassy requires you to select a few items to bring with while you only wear noble clothes into the embassy, which you are locked inside until you complete the mission and escape, and do not get your stuff back until you get back to the inn at riverwood.

there's a few others like that.

You don't HAVE to do what they say, you have the option to kill the Prisoners too. Last time I did this quest I went Werewolf and ate them all.
Bronze Dragon Mar 21, 2024 @ 3:53pm
I don't have the werewolf spell or potion or whatever it is. I have the ring the werewolf guy gave me...if that's it, I didn't know it did that. I also didn't know you could kill the prisoners. If i'd known that, that's the option I would've taken.

We're outside the mine, the prisoners ran off killing guards, and the mission shows completed. Is that it? I thought I was supposed to get some special reward or something for helping them escape. What about me, are the guards still going to keep killing me? Someone in the discussion said I was going to like how it came out. Frankly I'm standing here (well, my character is) kinda shrugging.

The ring doesn't let you turn into a werewolf, not without the form already. Werewolf is a power, and can only be used once a day, the ring lets you transform whenever you want.

That's only one way though, magic also works. It's very hard for a melee focused character as you have no armor and your best weapon in a pickaxe.

You should have got a set of Armor, the "Armor of the Old Gods" from Madanach. That is the end of the quest.

I have nothing to add, but for the longest time when first entering Markarth on a new play, I disable Eltrys and I have never regretted it. NEVER. I am not saying that's what you should do, but if you do go that route; do your homework and learn how to do it right.
