Which soul gem is the highest?

2) Grand soul gem

Also which soul is the gives best results enchanting and who do I have to kill to get it, humans, animals, etc...

Black Soul gem and Grand Soul gem are the highest. But Black can only contain NPC souls, and Grand can accept everything else, including lower end creatures. So a Grand might end up with a Lesser soul

I think the black and grand are on par greater is weaker. That said If you played Dawnguard you might think different about Black soulgems.

The rare Soul Tomatoes also count as Grand Soul Gems.

Black Soul Gems can hold both White & Black souls, they are not restricted to only NPC souls.

yeh but that doesn't negate carrying a dozen of them, ever have JUST the star? that right there is frustrating. one-soul-at-a-time is more an "emergency backup" than anything. If you're in a fight and your gear needs juice, the black star is much more usable to feed your bow bandits, kill another, empty it, kill another, etc. but that's a different quest ending most don't prefer... even though "she" appears good, is still a daedric prince and out only for himself. Go black. much more useful.

Azura is a Good Daedric Prince. (I know should be Princess, but they can manifest as either gender).

Because she has never been mortal her values are slightly off to our mortal eyes, but she genuinely cares about her followers.... again because she has never been mortal this is skewed towards other priorities... But she is not evil, or even neutral, she is good, and trying her best.

Malyn Varen on the other hand is pure evil, he is feeding on the souls of others to prevent his soul slipping into the afterlife. This is pure selfishness and benefits nobody but him....

So morally you are choosing between helping a mildly good but well intentioned immortal and helping a thoroughly evil necromance..... How can anyone see helping the Necromancer feeding on the souls of his followers and their victims as anything but pure evil?

There are no good or evil daedric princes. Every single one of them has its own set of goals and values, or you could even say that they are a set of concepts themselves.

What "measuring scale" we do have is if those goals and the preferred means to achieve them are beneficial or destructive towards the common mortal.

Azura is one of the least destructive ones, but as we've learned from her quest in Oblivion, she may use and then discard mortals at her leisure. Or, as with the entire dunmer race, she can inflict terrible suffering through vindictive negligence.

So, the case of Azura's star can be decided based on whichever version is more suitable for your current roleplay. There's no "universal moral" to be found here.

If you did the quest for Azura in Oblivion, you might have noticed she puts a lit candle for each of those followers on her shrine..... She did care about them, just not the same way we would.... But she does genuinely try... which is actually scary when she comes up short...

But yes, they have their own morallity which is at odds to our morallity.

You see, even if she cared to send the proverbial "thoughts and prayers", this could've helped them. Curing vampirism in its early stages isn't that difficult. A single spell, a potion, a shire's blessing, a miracle, and you're good to go. But she did nothing.
