Did you download the correct version of SKSE for your Skyrim setup?

Are you launching skse.exe instead of skyrim.exe? Are all the skse files in the same folder as skyrim.exe? Is it crashing or not starting up at all or?

I had it saved to desktop but since the latest update it stopped working. So I have been trying to fix it. I kept getting an message saying I didnt have the latest version. Now I dont have it at all

Roughly when did you download skse and roughly when you did last update skyrim?

How do you have SKSE installed ? I use a Vortex mod manager , also they say you can install
SKSE thru your mod manager , for me it's never happened so these days I always install it manually for both Skyrim and FO4 .

I would make sure your skse version matches your skyrim version. Skse needs to be updated every time skyrim updates. Also worth checking that all the skse files are actually in place. If it still crashes, it could be a mod. DLL mods specifically will usually insta-crash the game if they aren't updated alongside skse updates.

The easiest way to check your skyrim version is to go to your game folder, right-click the .exe, go to details, and check production version. The easiest way to check your skse version is by checking the skse64_readme.txt. Assuming you dumped into your game folder along with the other skse files, it should be there. Open it and look for a line near the top that says which steam version of skyrim it supports.

The SKSE archive package contains a text file how and where to install SKSE. It can be done both manually and by using a mod manager. Just be sure to have the correct version of SKSE for your game versio, e.g. SSE 1.6.1170 requires SKSE 2.2.6.

I will check when I get back from dinner.

Download "Current Anniversary Edition Build ... (1.6.1170)" from https://skse.silverlock.org/ . If you want to be extra sure, open a Safegame in skyrim and click on save in the game menu. When you do, your game version will be listed in the top left corner of the screen, it should be 1.6.11xx.

Extract the archive into a folder of your choosing.
Open the readme file inside this folder. Follow the instructions on installion, namely:
- Copy the skse641_6_1170.dll and skse64loader.exe files into your actual Sykrim special edition folder. You can access this folder through your steamlibrary: rightclick sykrim -> manage -> browse local files, agree to overwrite these files, if you already have them from other installations.
- Your SKSE extraction folder has a subfolder called data/script. All .pex files in this folder have to be copied into the data/scripts subfolder of your skyrim folder, agree to overwrite these files, if you already have them from other installations.

Go into your skyrim folder again and double click the skse64loader.exe to play the game. If you start it any other way, SKSE will not be loaded and you will get error messages, if you have mods installed that require it.
