Failed kill moves causes character to not move
So whenever a kill move attempts to proc and then fails to catch the npc my character stops moving. Now my character does not freeze and T pose but rather it still has all its idles playing but it will not respond to directional controls. I have tried to use console "enableplayercontrols" but it literally does nothing. I'm forced to revert back to a previous save but this is a persistent problem that seems to only happen whenever a melee kill move is interrupted or just fails to catch the npc due to distance or obstacles in the way and happens with any melee weapon. I also cannot change to first person when this happens.

yeah, killmoves kinda suck. I use a mod to disable as many of them as possible but still get some of the stealth melee kill ones.

my assumption is that it's probably the game trying to place your character at the appropriate location for the killcam move but since it couldn't, you char likely is stuck in transit.

There is a mod on nexus called 'VioLens" that is designed to enhance kill scenes, but has an option to remove all the kill scenes. I have not seen a kill shot since i check marked the box to remove them.

Dunno, never have that kind of problem. Sounds more like a corrupt save to me.

No, corrupt saves are a very specific thing and the game will give a message specifically stating that the save is corrupt.

As to the issue, I've seen it on occasion, but never with kill moves (though I do have Violens installed). Usually it seems tied to when trying to take screenshots or moving the camera when using the console - though, of course, there may be other reasons. It is almost always fixed by saving, exiting the game, and then launching and reloading that last save (though if that does not work - and it sometimes doesn't), you may need to roll back to an earlier save.

The majority of kill move bugs that I have experienced have to do with ranged attacks. Either the projectile misses the target, or the bow is stuck with the string pulled and stamina draining.

The bow stuck bug is fixed by re-equipping the weapon. As for the missed target, You could use the Violens mods as suggested as this allows for better management of kill moves.

As for disabling ranged kill moves, adding the following to the bottom of the skyrim.ini file will do the trick:

[VATS]
bVATSDisable=1

Not always. When you start experiencing random freezes and crashes, it may very well be a corrupt save caused by installing uninstalling mods mid game. Won't get a message for that in all cases.

Sadly Save and exit hasn't worked. I would have to revert to an earlier save once it happens. Weirdly enough though I can still input dodges and powers animations but I still remain in place and can't walk out of the spot I'm in.

Thankfully my ranges have yet to give me any issues. Its just the vanilla melee kill moves. I do have a modded killmove for Pikes from animated armory but only time I've had any issue with those is when I had collisions active from the precision mod

Do you think it could have something to do with my third person camera? I use smoothcam and true directional movement so maybe a conflict of some kind? I've been using both mods together for close to a year and never had any issues.

I'll give it a shot. Hopefully it leaves my modded pike killmoves alone though.

My least favorite Killcam bug is the infamous "killcam doesn't complete, enemy gains invincibility for way too long" bug that VioLens is powerless against. And there's nothing like getting the stabbing animation on a Dragonpriest, watching it do nothing, and having to deal with an angry invincible Dragonpriest that loves casting high level nukes for like ten additional seconds before the game allows me to damage them again.

I would say that is very likely, as the times it has occurred when I've seen it is when moving the camera while and animation is playing or, as I posted, when taking screenshots using the console. It doesn't occur all the time, but if and when it does, it's quite annoying.

So I went to the mod pages and not only is there no reported conflict they both say that they highly recommend each other so that's sorta out the question. The thing with the killcam though is you do lose control of the camera so the cinematic can trigger so it could very well be something there.

I've heard of that and thankfully have yet to encounter it so far

Can't say for certain if VioLens solved the issue but it seems it may have. Instead of disabling my kill moves I put the camera to "third person static" and it keeps the camera locked overhead instead of it moving around everywhere.
