I cannot disable survival mode.
As the title suggests I cannot disable survival mode. Even when I disable it, it continues to function in the background. Yes I am using mods, though not to any extreme extend. I have even found a mod, which disables survival mode. Problem is now I am stuck playing at "novice" difficulty because the difficulty slider is missing, and I'd rather be playing at least a apprentice.

Is there any fix to this, that wouldn't involve me having to fiddle around with Skyrim and my load order for an eternity?

Thanks in advance for any advice/help!

It's a bug in a ui mod (like Skyui or something similar that changes ui) that need to be updated to adhere to changes made in the latest updates which changed some ui stuff.

So should I downgrade to an earlier Skyrim version?

Some people have had this fix it. It should at least fix your difficulty: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/106418?tab=description

I can confirm that mod fixes the difficulty problem. I used yesterday to up my difficulty to legendary so I can actually hit the giant that the companions are fighting before they kill it.
Probably has something to do with the evil capitalist game not liking your PFP.

you could also just move ccqdrsse001-survivalmode.esl from your data

Slight necro since this was high on search result list. This mod fixes the difficulty slider issue, survival mode issue and any others that might be in SkyUI with the updated menu. I'm on v1.6.1170 and it's worked perfectly.

Not working for me. I think adding a better map plugin glitched tf out of my install because survival mode just activated and will NOT DIE. If I remove the .esl the game CTDs at the bethesda splash screen. FFS I finally come back to Skyrim after years of hating on Bethesda and for about an HOUR I'm thinking, yeah, this actually was a cool game. Then this *&!@ starts happening again and I remember that Bethesda sued a company for IP violation because of the bugs in the offending software being the same as the !#$@storm that is every Bethesda game engine ever.

I may have jumped the gun, it seems this fix *does* address my issue. Sort of. I found out that what was causing survival mode to activate was having SkyUI installed and trying to change the difficulty level of the game. reverting to a previous save was enough to undo the survival mode but I needed the above patch to be able to change difficulty without permanently adding survival mode as well.

i don't even have skyui installed or any other ui mod installed and i have this same issue
there is a bug after one of the updates from a year ago, put simply if you activate survival mode you can't turn it off, and Bethesda isn't fixing it...

Just start a game with it disabled, and leave it disabled
