How to reinstall AE content?
Hello, due to issues I cannot seem to resolve I decided to reinstall SSE. I followed the clean install guide, removed the files in explorer, and then uninstalled SSE. After reinstalling SSE it is not showing me the option to download the AE content. Searching for it notices say it is in my library, yet I see not indication for it or a download link.

I am using Vlad 254's LO guide for version 1.6.640 here https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2944593951

The guide has me start the game to the first menu and then later specifies if one has the AE content to proceed to the second menu and download it, but the download option does not appear.

Another unusual thing is somehow it has my old game saves. I thought deleting the files in explorer per the clean install instructions removed them.

How do I reinstall the AE content and will the past saved games mess with things that I should repeat the clean install? Thank you

To download AE content, you need to go to the creations menu, log into your Bethesda account/have said Bethesda account linked to your Steam account, and you should be able to download them.

As for your saves, uninstalling/reinstalling a game doesn't erase saves. These are in completely different locations in completely different directories from where the game installs. Having your old saves shouldn't mess with your game itself, though having cloud saves enabled can.
Steam by default is located within your Program Files folder, and then within that, "\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition"

Saves on the other hand are located within your "My Documents" location. Specifically, "C:\Users\<USERNAME_HERE>\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\Saves"
This is an entirely different location from the game's installation folder.

If you want to delete the saves or disable cloud saving you can do so by right clicking the game in your Steam library, selecting properties, and then clicking the toggle for it in the tab that pops up within the "general" tab.

Most likely it has your old saves coz of the Steam cloud. Disable it and remove the saves again. Or run the game's launcher, remove the saves and exit the launcher. It will make the cloud to remove the saves.

Unfortunately, all the suggestions made above the guide had me do, but thank you for the replies!! The clean install video referenced by Gamerpoets had me remove the skyrim folder in my games where the saves are.

I just repeated all the steps of the clean install this time removing vortex too. Everything seems to be going fine as the AE content downloaded. One thing I did notice is all the extension are not activated or installed in vortex. Do I need to install all of the extensions shown?

For me, I used the SkyrimSELauncher file in the game directory. That triggered the AE content download which wasn't triggering through launching the game normally.

There are many modders that won't support pre 1130 versions anymore. Some of those are fundamental for everything else to work.

I think people will have to bite the bullet, upgrade both game and mod and then get themserlves an external ssd (if they don't already have one for backups) and copy everything there. Only real insurance I can think of at the present time.

Like who? I only know of one big mod author who, despite being consistent with his updates, likes pulling the rug under everyone's feet with each incoming official update, by hiding all previous versions of his mods.

People who's load orders rely on his mod would have an easier time finding the direct download link to an old version than "biting the bullet" and giving up every single one of their outdated/incompatible mods.

Like USSEP.

Why not bite the bullet and protect yourself.

If you already had yourself adequately protected from sudden updates, this may not apply to you.
