How to disable automatic updates in Skyrim
Right click on Skyrim in Steam, Browse local files, at the top in Windows Explorer click on the Steamapps folder, Find "appmanifest_489830.acf", Right Click, Properties, Set to read only. BAM, No more updates.

If you want to update then just do all that again and uncheck Read Only.

I'm tired of this why keep updating. I don't want any new skyrim it's already perfect. why they don't spend their time making Elder scroll 6 :steamfacepalm:

Still not running after downgrade.

There will eventually be an attempt to validate,, probably for hotfixes and such on Bethesda's side, and that will still brick your game. You need to back up your game version, just in case, because anything can happen.

How did you downgrade? The downgrade patcher isn't compatible. You have to do it manually.

Looks like my own mod manager just screwed me as well. External changes forced me to update. Working on fixing it now.... Annoying.

edit:
Yea, there's tons of forces that will be against anyone not wanting to update their game. Tons of hola-hoops that people will have to go through. i can't even say that it's worth the trouble honestly.

There was a way to make Steam think that Skyrim was Uninstalled so it never does the check but I don't remember how.

I just change my game's folder name and it seems to be working just fine.

Can't have the game update if Steam doesn't know where it is.

for the future, you can tell it to discard External changes, pay attention to what options it gives you when it comes up, the wording can vary depending on what changes it detects

The settings in the page are still readable. Which means if the settings are there to download the update, or Only download the Update when I launch the game the machine will read them. Unless we can tell it not to download the Update AT ALL; before we make it Read Only it will still do what it says on that page. It can't change the settings in the page anymore that's all.

Thanks for the info Tea Cup: :-)

My main concern is with LE.

But decided to copy this with notepad++ as I assume most of you are into SE.

So we could see what was in it.

Because I could. :-),

Cheers Bob.

I did have a strange thought overnight:

A few days ago, I fired up my old windows 7 laptop It wasn't connected to the net.

I then fired up Skyrim LE. from, 2019 on steam from the same era. And it ran as sweet as I remember it before the updates killed the copy I normally play on my newest pc.

So long as that copy doesn't come into contact with steam. It's safe.

Zipping both into a password protected zip file will stop steam from accessing it while I'm on the net. And unzipping them when I want to play my game after stopping the net connection. Isn't as bad as not having it to play as I want to play it.

Just don't overwrite the steam and the copy of Skyrim steam likes. Just rename them then Xsteam XSkyrim would do it Then when your finished rename your MYsteam and MYSkyrim.

Fool proof no. But steam can be reinstalled and so long as you have copies you have your old game. So, everybody is happily doing their thing.

My thought was one copy on the playing pc for updates to do their thing to keep Bethesda and steam happy.

Then a copy for when you isolate your game machine from the net. And play with the mods YOU WANT.

You will need an old games machine and an old copy of the game and an old copy of steam. (Zip them, for safe keeping) rename the current theirsteam and the latest modded theirSkyrim. And paste the old steam as steam next to the theirsteam the new theirSkyrim can have MYSkyrim next to it just run it from inside the directory/folder. so, you can rename them when you finish playing.

The game can go pretty much anywhere so long as you run it from inside the directory you have called it. X for instance it knows it is Skyrim while you're running it from inside that directory the files are automatically in the search path. But don't put too many directories between it and the rest of the drive. Has trouble saving if it's more than X:\ away so X:\a\ it doesn't like. or didn't with me and Win 7.

Maybe someone smarter can make it clearer?

Cheers Bob.

Because everyone who was any good left the company ages ago, and now they're owned by Vader$oft. So they're going to milk Skyrim at least a couple more times.
