Mod Question: So how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ am I?
Straight to the point: everytime I boot SKSE64, load up my save, start moving in one direction, and then after a certain point-Instant CTD. This save is in a modded location, specifically in the Clockworks mod dungeon. Im at the pipe fixing quest. The CTD started happening out of the blue for no reason the moment I decided to go to a new room, one near the forge where you can make more pipe parts, and just wait 24 hours there. I thought it was just some memory overload, so i decided to do it again. Same thing kept happening. I thought it was crashing because of a saving bug. I could both quicksave and save normally, with no issues but found out that the CTD is time dependant. Meaning that no matter what I did, the moment I went back into the main dungeon Id be ♥♥♥♥♥♥. If I also moved after a certain point towards some sort of "zone" I would just get CTD. So, its both time, and placement dependant. All MCM menus showed that they were working...I think. Cheat menu was fine and so were many others. No errors or stops or nothing. I tried to set the Gilded recovery time to 0, but even that didn't change the fact that I got hit with a CTD. So I tried to resort to using loot and QuickEditSSEE. I fixed what I thought would be causing the most problems(Since i reinstalled a companion mod, and a anim mod during that playthrough since it was bugged). Also fixed every error that was found by loot. And installed all the patches I was missing. Nope. Still does the CTD. I used MO2, to see if there was some other way to fix this, but I am an idiot and have no idea what this thing wants from me. Except for the fact that it wanted "Form 43 plugins removed" which I did, it also showed me that the bug fixes for clockwork were "overwritten by loose files" for the base clockwork, and the opposite for clockwork, where its "overwrites loose files" Same for Inigo's mod as well, but I did not trigger him yet so I don't think the problem is here. And it was not bug fixes, but perk points. So am I royally ♥♥♥♥♥♥ because of my endless mod downloading, or is this somehow salvageable? Sorry for the text dump or if I posted somewhere Incorrectly, This is my first ever community post ever basically.
Mod-list posted in comments, and taken from LOOT, because I have no other idea on how to import mod lists.

The following mods aMiridians bookofsilence, thundering shouts, and SMIM were all crossed out in mod organizer.

Hey Aruzaniac!

While the Forum takes a look at your issue and reviews your extensive mod list, I would like to ask a couple of questions -
1. Assuming that everything was fine until recently, have you made any mod changes?
2. If so, have you tried reversing the changes and loading a save that was made prior to the changes?
3. Have you tried creating a new test character and see if you are able to play without CTDs?
Aruzaniac Dec 1, 2023 @ 10:23pm
To answer your questions:
1. The only mod changes that I applied, during the mod quest, were reinstalling a custom companion mod, and a hugging mod for companions. This was before I entered the actual dungeon. The mod changes I applied AFTER, the problem when I tried to solve it myself, were deleting mods that were already present within other mods. I.e LOTD had "Book coveres lost library" and had "Unique Uniques".
2. I actually did. I went into an old 21 hour save file where i was in the Xrib temple, and I did not insta CTD when I was walking around and killing enemies. Saving, and waiting also didn't CTD. The overworld waiting and saving also did not CTD, But there was one thing that happened. When I exited Xrib, and just quicksaved, I wanted to take a look at the save filed, and bam: "$SAVE CORRUPT" with a horizontal colored pillar ":img" thumbnail placeholder instead of a screenshot of what the PC is supposed to be looking at. Reloading SKSE, caused the corruption to "dissapear". As in the save file was loadable, and fully functional, despite the previous message.
3. Also did. No CTD's or faliures on waiting. Neither quicksaving or saving caused me to CTD. I even did the vanilla start, and the abandoned jail start(the quickest), and there were no CTD's. Though I think I figured out how to detect when my save is "corrupt" through these instances. When a "modded" prompt usually comes up, that is not CC or base gamed, if the file is corrupt, there is usually no text and just an empty box, plus a yes or no question. In this case, I had Wintersun installed, so when I saw after helgen an empty box and a selection to follow a god without any text, and the same thing on the abandoned prison, I later on just came to this conclusion.

I also tried on the save file I have the most progress on, with the problem-to go back to the room I came from. Instantenous CTD, with or without Autosaving on entry.

After a few hours of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around here are some things i figured out:
1. The moment I exit to the main Nurndural, a timer starts ticking down towards some set time, and then crashes. The enemies, terrain and everything associated around it works perfectly fine. I can also repair the pipes and "progress" the quest. If I wait for any amount of hours in either of the rooms, it insta CTD'es.
2. Making sure that Clockwork loads ABOVE things like COTN did not do anything to change the situation.
3. SSEEdit cleaning cleared its ITM's, but it also changed nothing.
4. MO2 is showing the following:
"Overwrites | File | Overwritten by |
CWbugfixes.esp

Unmanaged: CWbugfixes.bsa
Clockwork"
Trying to double click the esp results in this:
"[2023-12-02 07:58:29.485 E] failed to invoke 'open F:/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Skyrim Special Edition/data/ClockworkBugFixes.esp': Noapplicationisassociatedwiththespecifiedfileforthisoperation. (0x483)"
5. In the 21 hour save file, the companion did not seem to have any problems with their pathfinding, voicelines, behaviour and combat. Still could not hug the companion I wanted to, but I could hug the sword instead.
6. It might be a stretch, but this "$SAVE CORRUPT" may have been going on for a very long time, as I didn't really have any reason to reload the game at any point in time.

You state:
"1. The only mod changes that I applied, during the mod quest, were reinstalling a custom companion mod, and a hugging mod for companions."

Are we to understand that you had, at some point, uninstalled a mod and continued playing and later reinstalled that mod? If so, your save was borked from when you fist uninstalled the mod, and reinstalling just compounded the issue, as explained here:

You CANNOT Remove Mods Mid-Playthrough - http://steamcommunity.com/app/489830/discussions/0/1520386297681801135/
(from PINNED TOPIC Helpful Links and references, Section 5 - General Troubleshooting)

The "Save file corrupted" seems like an instance of "false save corruption" which is fixed by the mod Engine Fixes - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17230

Finally, as to modding, until an actual build is finalized (meaning you have reached a point where you are no longer adding mods), all play should essentially be considered a playtest of the build, so as to weed out any problematic mods and troubleshoot any potential issues. Furthermore, before one starts to add additional mods, one must have a stable game upon which to build - so first set a build with a limoited number of mods, and once that is seen to be free of issues, then add another batch of mods.

Also, any edit made using xEdit should be made before a playthrough is started, as editing things in xEdit during an ongoing game, is at heart no different than removing mods mid-playhrough - you are potentially removing/changing information and data that has been baked into the save.

I will say that you do seem to have a fairly good handle on how to go about testing, and Nabinkemper provided some excellent advice, as well. But despite everything, it may be necessary to roll back to an earlier save or, even, to start fresh - those things are always distinct possibilities when it comes to modding the game.

Keep us updated on how things go, and good luck!

EDIT
I see you posted that you cleaned Clockwork. You should NOT clean any mod unless specifically stated that you can do so by the mod author. Doing so can lead to serious errors, as some mods require "dirty" edits in order to function.

7. Using Desaver on the auto-saved file, where I exited into the main dungeon, whereas it cleared a ♥♥♥♥ ton of hidden-plugins, did not fix the issue of CTD'ing.
8. Teleporting to the cheat room triggers the CTD countdown. Faster then the one where you just go into the dungeon.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the legend himself on my ♥♥♥♥ up has posted. I feel honored.
But to answer your question about the mod reinstallment, I have first exited SKSE, then went to vortex-reinstalled the two mods I wanted to be fixed/working together, Those being:
39 27 MrissiTailOfTroubles, the entire mod, not only the .esp file.
69 45 ImGladYoureHere, same thing as MTOT, the entire mod.
Waited until Vortex finished its parsing and deployment, THEN launched the game, and decided to quit, again, and download a few more modifications for M'rissi. and THEN did I launch the SKSE and load the save and begin playing through the dungeon. The game was functional during the whole time i was in the main dungeon, As I could basically just move around everywhere for as long as I liked for an indefinite amount of time. Thats pretty much it. There was NO modification towards the modded quest location, or anything related to it. Although-I'm guessing I was already ♥♥♥♥♥♥ from the very begining of when I actually started the mod. The reason being-The bug fixes of clockwork that I had installed, Was supposed to hide the "Clockwork" title card that usually appears in the base mod. The bug fixes are supposed to get rid of the title card all together, If the box was ticked. This was basically the first sign of indication that: "This ♥♥♥♥ don't work, Abort." Only now do I realise this. Also switching the mod order between the bug fixes and the main mod doesn't do anything. The Winning Loose files will always overwrite it, no matter what. What's worse, is that it looks like the Main mod is overwritting the bug fixes. Why? I don't know. I had the same combo of Additional Clockwork + Clockwork a few years back on pirated Skyrim, and it worked fine. But back then I didn't have this many mods installed, so I guess this is either karmic justice for me pirating the game 2 years ago, or its my inept thinking of: "It'll be fine, whats the worst that can happen?"
The reason I have this mindset to modding in bethesda games, is because the earliest examples I had of modding-were on ps4. For fallout 4.
If anything I think im just going to recover whats most important from the save file, again MCM and everything still works. So I can import stuff from the save file, Like whatever I have written In "Take Notes". Then just nuke the save files and try to do the "Clean slate" guide. I guess its goodbye for my Redguard-Witcher.
Thanks for helping me!

From the NexusMods Clockwork page forum, page 2, post made on 13 January 2023, 5:54AM.

User Comment -
"Hey, I'm getting a consistent crash when trying to leave Nurundal after having fixed the pipelines..."

Mod Author Response -
"Looks to me like you're one of the many users who suffer from an issue where the Gilded trying to reanimate plays an effect that crashes the game. The cause seems to be seemingly random and is different for every user, so you'll unfortunately have to just try disabling mods (preferably start with things like meshes and textures - especially for spells) until it works.

I have had someone identify Nether's Follower Framework as the cause, and it does look like you also have it installed (it even appears quite high in the stack trace). At least for testing purposes, try disabling it and seeing if that works.

If you aren't able to resolve the crash, you can use the console command coc CLWCastleMausoleum to teleport to where your next required interaction with the mod will take place."

~If you are entering the location with a follower, possibly the Floating Sword (45 2d FloatingSwordFollower.esp), this may be causing the issue. I didn't see a Follower Framework in your mod list.~

EDIT: I just read through your latest post. Clockwork does appear to have a potential to cause issues especially since the AE DLC adds so much. Hope you do find a solution. Good luck!

The companion thing may very well be an issue. As for the reason why I didn't have "Nethers Companion framework", is due to it not being a required mod for "There is no Umbra" and "M'rissi Tails of Troubles". Yes, even for Inigo. And yes, I did make a new save state-go to Riften-and see how Inigo works. The result? He works.
If the corruption keeps on persisting, then I'll probably reinstall skyrim and skse, though I doubt Skse has anything to do with it. In any case, If I do manage to cook up a solution to this, I still have the save files backed up on a seperate folder.

EDIT: The reason why it may be the issue, is due to how the sword companion works. You can essentially both have the sword companion-as a companion-or you can have the companion in the inventory. As a weapon. When you drop the weapon, it spawns the actor, and instantly registers it as your companion. And if I remember correctly, the disclaimer near Velothi Mount. Ruins specifically says that I should not have access to any companions. I'm guessing that in some way, "There is No Umbra" has some sort of code where, if you chose to have the sword as a weapon you still have a "companion" but not near you, just somewhere else. Idk, it seems like the most likely answer.

Update.
Can't even launch SKSE now. I do not know how the ♥♥♥♥ that happened.
I just decided to launch Skyrim through its native launcher, and it automatically set its .ini files and stuff.
No biggie, i thought. Nope. Can't do anything. Same goes for literally Trying to launch it from any other tool. bFullscreen is always 1, and borderless is 0. So, guess I am ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Looks like Im just going to have to purge everything. Oh well.

Update.
Everything is working. Thanks for all the tips guys!
Another thing. Not sure if it was mentioned since i only skim read this thread, but DO NOT use quicksave. ESPECIALLY when modded. It is known to lead to issues with scripts, where they get paused during the quicksave (intended), and either do not start again, and therefore a mod is not propperly functional anymore permanently on that save going onward, no matter what you do. Alternatively a script might start looping, like infinitely spawning butterfly spawn spots, or instantly regrowing ingredients, or NPCs only saying one specific thing as idle bark, even tho they normally could say tens and dozens of things. In alot of bad cases (which are common with modded skyrim quicksave issues) those looping scripts duplicate aswell, bloating the savefile size and leading to the file getting oo big or floating point math getting severely out of hand, and simmilar issues that corrupt savegames. it is theoretically enough to quicksave once within the first 5 minutes of a playthrough to cause a cascade that after tens to hundrets of hours kills the save. This has been an issue with these games since morrowind...
Also, do not save during combat. Similar reason. Ideally, turn off autosaves alltogether aswell and only rely on manual hard saves in the future.

After playing for 1000 hours with mods, I have yet to experience any of the above. Quicksaves work just fine.
