Every mod that tries to turn skyrim into darksouls introduces weird block mechanics where combat is based on player skill and not your characters own competence.
Which inevitably leads you being able to take on enemies way above your level without taking any damage, making combat brain-dead.
All while doing swirly twirly melee combat ripped straight from an anime.
As a certified weeb, i think i'm qualified to call those mods wack AF. If you want skyrim with better combat, just use precision.
Those things wouldnt really have to be mutually exclusive. I thought maybe you unlock those fancy combos while leveling your weapons skill, which would give you a nice feeling of progression and the possibility to visually distinguish a level 5 peasant from a level 50 dragon slayer.
But judging from your answers and the ones from others, that doesn't seem to be the case.
A real shame that is. Because the quality of those animations really get to the level of From Software titles and it is really amazing what those guys made. I'm just a little bit surprised, that with this level of work that went into those mods noone ever really stopped to think: "Hey maybe there are players out ther that dont just want combat porn while smashing a single button, but would actually like to play an RPG."
I disagree with this, vanilla skyrim combat is brain dead, you just slash till they die. At least things like sekiro combat and mods to increase enemy ai will give you a challenge. Vanilla did not give a challenge.
Nolvus difficulty is pretty customizable, the combat is excellent, though I do agree that it feels more like the Witcher, say, than it does OG Skyrim.
