Question: is it a permanent fix for you or do you need to keep doing this every time you load up the game? For me the fix works until I am finished playing and then close out the game to desktop. Then the keyboard causes a crash again next time I boot up the game, so I have to do the exploit again. Just a heads up to anyone reading this, it's not a permanent fix but better than nothing. Really hope Bethesda patches this, but I'm happier having this than nothing at all. Thanks again dude!
Not sure I understand properly what the fix is.
Could you list the steps to do this fix ?
Thank you very much for your help
2: Go to enchanting table
3: select an item to enchant an enchantment and a soul gem
4: press y to name the item it should pull up a overlay with the keyboard
5: exit out of enchanting (you don't have to craft the item)
6: profit you can now pull up the keyboard overlay with steam+x and close it without crashing for the rest of the play session
I don't know what else pulls up the keyboard but I'm pretty sure anything that does should have the same effect
Thanks so much, I didn't understand either - thanks to xavierbarbary for asking and then thanks for to Djidane781's post that directly said how to do it as I'm new to the game series altogether and wanted to give it a try. I'm wanting to play it on Steam Deck and not just on PC if I can avoid it - saw this issue while looking into getting the game, and since there's this workaround I am gonna get it. Thanks again
Pretty stupid if it is.
That's a rhetorical question, the answer is obvious
I had to play the game on desktop mode and use kde connect's remote input just to name my character, this is so unbelievably asinine. We're well beyond the point of industry giants becoming their own satire lmao
1. Make a new separate save.
2. When Hadvar asks you, "Who are you?", save.
3. When you get to the character creation menu, press X.
4. Choose "Ok" when asked, "Finish and name your character?"
5. When you are taken to the "Please Enter Text" screen, exit that screen.
6. Press "Steam + X" or whatever input you choose instead of "Steam + X", to bring up the onscreen "Steam + X" keyboard.
7. Close the onscreen "Steam + X" keyboard and you will see that the game will not CTD whenever you close the onscreen "Steam + X" keyboard as long as the game is still running.
8. Keep the save file and load it up everytime you want to play Skyrim SE on Steam Deck and repeat steps 3 to 5, then you can quit to main menu and go back to your current playthrough by choosing "Load" and selecting the save that has the name of your current playthrough's character.
