Skyrim is still being played yet not on this platform. Of course, other more recent games which are multi-platform are outperforming it, anyway.
Cyberpunk 2077 has more players than Skyrim has on Steam yet it sold more on GOG (at least initially). Skyrim is getting up there in years so attrition is to be expected, update or no update.
Got this with Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk, the new spiderman etc.
People play the game, either 100% after a good couple months or get bored and go onto the next.
Do people need to spend all their free time on literally the same game forever?
I'll update when I feel like checking that all my mods will be compatible with the update.
I have to first isolate every mod I suspect will be effected and then research them if they have an update and I'll get around to it.
I backed up my game, updated, then deleted the files and put the modded game back in the folder. Had to paste back in the previous exe via a thread that offered a fix though, because opening the manager forced some issues. Also had to track down the previous SKSE; a pain.
People are so hung up on the dumbest things
There's nothing more depressing than an armchair accountant.
Lucky for you Pete Hines retired recently.
Good point. With him out of the way the unmovable multi billion dollar stomping gorilla is free to send new marketing communications to it's customers, modders and fans.
But, you have to keep in mind that it's a very old game. That it is still being played by 20k+ individual gamers is still impressive. A few games can tell that.
Regardless, of course the numbers are down after that update - people are waiting until their mods get updated so they can get back to playing.
