A lot of "children" skin mods (there's not very many of them for... obvious reasons), tend to beautify children too much in my opinion, which clashes with Skyrim's artstyle - but the default children just look bad. BnP has 2K skin textures for children, and still aims for a more realistic appearance instead of trying to "anime-ify" them or make them have faces that are so "flawless" and unblemished that every single one of them could be one of those child models. It's also nice that they have skin textures made for both genders - most child skin texture mods focus only on girls for some reason, making the girls look like princesses, and the boys faces looking way too feminine.
The character I'm playing as in my current Skyrim run is actually of the child race since I am using the playable version of RS Children. The skin retextures look pretty good to me, especially since a child that goes through even a fraction of what the Dragonborn does would have a slightly more withered and grizzled look despite how young they may be: https://i.imgur.com/r9FSvMf.png
