Questions about learning how to Mod Skyrim in 2024 on PC
I haven't played Skyrim since 2013. I lost my game over the years.

I want to get back into Skyrim and play it again since 2013 but I want to mod the crap out of it like I did back in the day. I was about to do just that but when I started looking for youtube tutorials to "learn how to mod skyrim all over again" I discovered a disturbing story that some greedy update happened by Bethseda that had supposedly "ruined modding". I don't quite understand the problem but I hope yall know what this update is and can explain it to me.

Because of this bethseda update, I'm hesitant to spend the money to buy Skyrim all over again, because I'm afraid I won't be able to mod the game. Are my fears unfounded? I have some questions I want to ask the steam community:

1. Can i still mod the crap out of Skyrim? If so, will I only be able to use mods found in the community workshop section of Steam?

2. Which version of Skyrim do I need to purchase? I never played any expansion packs that came out after the vanilla game and want to play those storylines out too. It would be nice if if there is a package I can get that has the vanilla game and all the expansions. What is that package called?

3. Since it is 2024 and the graphics of the 11.11.11 version are dated, the first mods I'll be searching for are the ones I can use to upgrade the graphics quality. I have an RTX 3090 so which mods do you recommend for me to max out the quality of graphics on this old game?

4. Which "modding tutorial" would ya'all reccomend since there are so many out there? I'm specifically looking for a tutorial on "how to mod skyrim" that applies to after whatever bethseda modding update that happened that has a lot of Skyrim fans upset.

5. I heard of a massive mod project where some modders created a cool mod that basically was a remake of Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind but with Skyrim graphics. Does this mod still exist? Would be cool to play around with that.

In short, YEs they ko'd MODDING, Scrpit extender HAS been updated and so have a few more popular MODS, the rest is author dependant. "New" MODS published within the last couple of weeks should work though.

  1. There is no community workshop for Skyrim SE. You will have to find your mods on AFK Mods, Nexus Mods or other sites.
  2. The version to buy would be Skyrim Special Edition. That would be version 1.6.1130, either the standard or the one with the AE DLC included, which ever you prefer.
  3. The new SSE is now 64-bit and has improved graphics, but personally I would suggest to install 3D graphics mods to replace remaining 2D graphics.
  4. I would recommend the guides of Vlad 254. Although for version 1.6.640, they may be of help to you.
  5. There are a few large projects in the make for Morrowind and Oblivion, but it may still take a while before these are finished. You can always look for other DLC-size mods, such as Falskaar.

As for the latest patch (1.6.1130), you have to be careful adding mods. But, with adding mods to your game you always have to be careful. Read the descriptions of the mods, what requirement do the mods have, are there issues, etc.

Sounds like melodramatic clickbait.

Whenever there's a new patch, the script extender needs to be updated. This is a third-party program that some complex mods depend on. It's usually updated pretty quickly.

Over the past decade, I've had to give up on a handful of mods that were abandoned years ago and have since become incompatible with the game. If having to remove a couple mods from your modlist every decade is a deal-breaker for you, yeah, maybe you shouldn't bother modding Skyrim.

Of course.

There is no community workshop for Skyrim SE. You can use Bethesda's in-game mod service, which also sells mods, or you can a search engine to find sites that have thousands of free mods.

You already own the Special Edition. This is the latest version. Despite whatever memes you might have seen, there are not dozens of Skyrim versions.

Nobody can tell you what you'll like, but you might take a look at Skyrim 202X[www.nexusmods.com] for a high end graphical overhaul.

Click "guides" and then "top rated all time". Or you could just follow the instructions that come with each mod/modding tool.

They probably have web pages, then. You can use a search engine to find their websites. I just typed "morrowind in skyrim" into a search engine, and it brought up a link to a website called Skywind.

modding skyrim nowaday's is a pain in the ass. The easiest way would be to subscribe to nexus mods its like 5 a month and you can use their vortex mod manager to install COLLECTIONS people have made that add 1000s of mods to skyrim in almost one click.

The reason for subscribing is to make the process automated otherwise you would need to click on each mod throughout the whole process and it would also limit your download speed.

You would just go to skyrim SE on nexus and login and click the collections tab and theres a lot to choose from. Some are easier than others. Some are separated from the same author into different types, as in one for immersion mods and one for graphical mods.

Most all of them need to you to run the game at least once unmodded before installing.

Not everyone gets them to work but if you follow instructions on getting it ready to install it is much easier than trying to do it yourself if you plan on adding a lot.

I'm no genius and i have installed a collection that was about 250 gigs worth of mods and it worked the first time. which to me is insane because it would have taken me about 2 day's to figure all that ♥♥♥♥ out myself or more.

you can pretty much ignore the success rating the collections have because there are a lot of people that just don't understand how modding works. If you have done it before it should be simple for you and like i said some of them are pretty much 1 click installs. you'll just be waiting a while for it to do everything for you.

Hope that helps
