And additionaly you may have to change few other settings in EngineFixes.toml. See my guide for additional info:

When you install VORTEX for the first time, you need to choose where your Mod Staging folder should be ( VORTEX will advise you though ) and where your downloads should be kept in your PC ( I got mine in C:\users\myname\FOLDER .... ( you need to create it ).
After that, you start your game ( vanilla ). Get to Riverwood and save it. Exit. Go to your Pref.ini file and under [LAUNCHER] add : bEnableFileSelection=1 and save the file. Now you are ready to download in VORTEX.
Go to VORTEX and go to GAMES and search for Skyrim and ACTIVATE it.
Go to SETTINGS and under AUTOMATION, check :
- Deploy mods when enabled
- Install mods when downloaded
- Enable mods when installed ( in current profile )
- Run VORTEX when computer starts ( OPTIONAL )
In the same page, where DASHLETS are, decide what it is that you want to have ( I do ) :
- To do list
- Recently Managed
- Announcements
- News
- Latest mods
- Onboarding
- Changelog
- Issues
- BepInEx Support
- UMM Support
- ARC support
- QBMS supprt
Under CUSTOMISATION ( check ) :
- Custom Window Title Bar
- Enable Desktop Notifications
- Use relative times
Under ADVANCED ( check ) :
- Enable Profile Management
- Enable GPU Acceleration
Now, go to NEXUS and start downloading your mods; when downloading, VORTEX will do everything automatically except when there are two or more mods conflicting to each other. Let me give you an example : let' say that you download :
- Daedric Reaper Armor
... then after that mod, you install another armor mod that is conflicting with the one shown above, VORTEX will tell you immediately that there is a conflict, at that point,
you need to click on the last armor that and a pop up window will show both mods ...
... at that point your new armor mod will be on the left and Daedric Reaper on the right ...
... click on the dropping arrow on your new mod and VORTEX may or may not advise you to either : install before, after or whatever ... you may choose what VORTEX suggest or you can make your decision right there and the conflict will end. Very simple.
Some mods like RACEMENU do not enable their plugins automatically, so make sure that you are checking constantly your PLUGINS tab and make sure that your mods are Enabled.
In the PLUGIN screen, you can choose : AUTOSORT ENABLED ... so VORTEX will automatically sort out all of your plugins. I do recommend to do that.
NOTE : I've never had any problem with VORTEX at all. Never, ever. It is the easiest mod manager that I've ever used in my life and the only thing you need to do, is to choose the mod you want to install in NEXUS and resolve the conflict when appears. Resolve the conflicts mod by mod if there is any. Do not let them to accumulate cause you will not know what to do and could be very confusing.
WHILE IN-GAME :
If you see that a mod is causing problem or simply you do not like it, do not DELETE IT from VORTEX. Go to it and DISABLE the mod and leave it there. That mod will not participate in your game anymore and will not crash or corrupt your game at all as well. Never delete a mod mid game, so the best way to deal with bad mods, is to DISABLE the mod in VORTEX. Again, this is very important to remember. I got 9 mods in my list ( VORTEX ) that are disabled.
Happy gaming.
