Downgrading and the State of Skyrim
I have been playing so much Cyberpunk since CDProjekt Red fixed the game and listened to their community. It has been some time since I played Skyrim. I decided to go and fix up my old work in progress mod list and saw an update and thought surely the only thing that broke was the script extender and a few other things and that they should be fixed by now. I quickly noticed this update was much different than their prior useless updates to milk a 10+ year old game. Neither creators nor consumers of mods want this and the old system to mod the game works just fine. I have seen the modding on console and it is extremely limited so maybe there is an argument there for the use of this system. However nobody on PC wants this and they have received backlash to just leave the game alone for literal years now but haven’t listened and expect modders to pick up the pieces to keep the community alive every time they roll out another useless update on PC . All bethesda can see is an untapped market and people to exploit. Bethesda is just ruining their support and reputation from an already diminished and disappointed community or as they simply see us "consumers'. I'm not going to go on a rant and you can find plenty of community backlash and valid criticism elsewhere that goes into detail. With that said and the desire to use extremely vitriolic and hyperbolic language aside just don't waste your time and money on this obvious cash grab and downgrade or don't it's your choice and that is just my opinion.

Here is how you downgrade to Skyrim Special Edition 1.6.640

First Press Win+R, paste: steam://nav/console

Now In steam console, paste this:
download_depot 489830 489831 3660787314279169352

this will be downloaded to [...]steamapps/content/app_489830/depot_489831

Wait for it to finish. Then paste this in the console once again:
download_depot 489830 489832 2756691988703496654

this will be downloaded to steamapps/content/app_489830/depot_489832

Wait for it to finish. Finally paste this in the console: download_depot 489830 489833 5291801952219815735

this will be downloaded to steamapps/content/app_489830/depot_489833

Now find these on your storage drive and copy the files or folders into your skyrimse folder and allow it to overwrite the new ones.

One more thing, make sure to use mods compatible with this version of the game. You might want to consider making copies of your favorite mods and store them away on a drive somewhere because I only see this getting worse from here. Just a disclaimer if you make copied files of a mod You have no right to distribute them for free or for monetary gain without explicit permission from the author so ask or read mod descriptions as some allow it.

PS: if you don't want it to update go to your library and right click then go to properties then updates and from there look for automatic updates and set it to only when I launch the game. The game will never update as long as you use the skyrim script extender otherwise known as SKSE to launch the game. I have also read that if you go to Steam/steamapps and find the folder labeled appmanifest_489830.acf then go to properties and set it to read only that it will force stop updates entirely so try that at your own discretion
