assistance with screen scaling or black border issue
Greetings fellow players,

Lately I've been having an issue effecting Skyrim, I've tried a number of things but all have had no effect on the issue. Therefore, i'm hoping someone here will be able to point me in the right direction.

Problem/Issue:
The graphics don't completely fill my screen. I would describe it as the image being scaled, as in, there are black areas on all sides. this only effects SkyrimSSE, all other games I have run full screen.

Circumstances that effect the issue:
This only happens when loading the game via Mod Organiser. When loading the game via Steam, all appears as it should.

Mods installed:
SKSE
Address Libary for SKSE Plugins
SkyUI
SkyUI Survival Mode Integration
RaceMenu
Fores New Idles in Skyrim SE - FNIS SE
MCM Helper
Precision
SSE Display Tweaks

What I've attempted to resolve the issue:
Checked SkyrimPrefs.ini in SteamLibary folder to ensure bFull Screen is set to true (1), and that iSize H, and iSize W match my monitors native resolution.
action: none, settings seem to be as they should be.
Result - no change

Checked SkyrimPrefs.ini in documents>my games>Skyrim Special Edition for the same settings as above.
action: none
Result - no change

Ensured all mods are up to date.
action: updated precision
result - no change

ran via Mod Organizer, but without mods.
action: unchecked all checkboxes next to mods, and ran game.
result - no change
notes: I thought this would run the game without any mods, however I'm surprised that the problem still persisted, and didn't have the same result as running the game via Steam. Could this mean unchecking those boxes doesn't in fact load the game without those mods active? ro could that indicate the issue is with Mod Organizer or SKSE?

action: Ran LOOT to sort mod load order.
result - no change

action: uninstalled SSE Display Tweaks.
result - no change

action: reinstalled SSE Display Tweaks
result - no change

checked mod organiser data/mods/SSE Display Tweaks\SKSE\Plugins\SSEDisplayTweaks.ini for references to screen resolution or scaling.
action: uncommented line refering to running game in full screen, and changed it from False to True.
changed resolution to 2560x1440
changed resolution scale to 1
saved changes
result - no change

That's about as far as I've come with tracking down the issue, although one important thing of note that I have discovered during my search is that Display Tweaks creates a log every time it is ran. Within that log file are the following lines:
[Window] [0x40E64] Window created [Skyrim Special Edition] (0,0,1920,1080)
[Render] Adapter: AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics
[Render] [D3D] Requesting mode: 1920x1080@95 | VSync: 1 | Windowed: 0
My monitors native resuloution is 2560x1440, so it seems odd that it's attemping to create a 1920x1080 window. Maybe i've missed a setting within DisplayTweaks settings, but it's odd that it does the same thing when i uninstall the mod.
Im considering uninstalling all mods, SKSE, and Mod Organizer and basically starting again from scratch to see if that does anything. Any assistance trying to track the issue down would be greatly apprecated.
Thank you in advance.

Sounds like a profile issue where your mod manager might be using multiple profiles and you happen to modify the wrong one. Hence it works when started from Steam, but not when started with the mod manager. Just a guess, but start looking at what your mod manager does differently and not just at the mods themselves.

Could it be a borderless window issue?

oh my gosh, it was indeed a profile issue. Thank you so much, I don't think I would have thought about that by myself. It's an issue that's been annoying me for quite some time, so I greatly appreciate you pointing me in the correct direction.

okay, so if there's anyone out there that's having the same issue in future and you stumble upon this thread, try the following..
open Mod Organizer. Either click tools>profiles, or click on the profile icon.
Click 'create' to make a new profile, give it a name. I chose not to check the checkbox 'default game INI settings' (I don't actually know if that had an effect on anything).
click 'OK'
this should add it to the profile list. Click it, and click the 'select' button.
This should bring you back to your normal screen with your list of mods, with all mods unchecked.
At this point, I ran the game and the issue was resolved, I then quit, re-enabled mods and ran again.

I'm not sure if I can fix/repair my origin profile, but I guess it doesn't really matter.
