Is the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition worth it in 2023?
Good evening everyone. Given the massive choice of open-world games nowadays, I was wondering whether the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition still holds up in 2023 when compared to the likes of the Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Assassin's Creed Odyssey or not.

According to many reviews, Skyrim is praised for its vastness, yet also criticized somewhat for its story, side quests, game-play mechanics and bugs as well as glitches.

Do these factors however detract from the overall game-play experience? Would any of you still say that Skyrim is worth it in 2023, despite its flaws?

I would highly appreciate any useful information you are able to provide.

Thank you.

100% worth it especially with mods.

Assuming you've never played it and are into RPGs and the price is around $10, then yes, definitely worth it.

Well, I never got the chance to. Plus, I was kind of reluctant at first considering that it's a Bethesda game and thus likely to have certain technical issues that would essentially ruin the game-play experience.

Funnily enough though, Skyrim seems to be on sale almost every time a major Steam Sale takes place, and at quite a low price too I might add.

Any particular reason why Skyrim's suddenly significantly cheaper during large Steam Sales compared to other open world games?

Oh I don't know, maybe because it has sold over 60 million copies across basically every gaming platform since it was released >.>

it's probably the most timeless game i've played, i pick it up every few years to mod it and it's still pretty refreshing every time. story and role-play are basic but still really fun, but it is really the vastness of the world that sucks you in. lots of locations to explore, a good amount of quests.

plus the DLC is actually really great, some of the best I've played. you missed the sale though ? I think it was 80% off a week ago.

Skyrim is the one i compare all other open world RPGs to.

Can't recommend it enough even in 2023.

yes. this game is superior to Starfield. Superior. I bounced off Starfield to come back to Skyrim and upgraded to AE and having a blast.

Ah, excellent. Thanks again.

Yeah, I did miss the sale that took place this week, as I was still reluctant to buy it without knowing what I was getting myself into.

I do plan however to wait either for the Autumn or Christmas sale, as it is more likely that it will be sold at a reasonable price than during the upcoming Halloween sale.

Ironic then, how Starfield ends up being beaten by Skyrim in terms of gameplay. Some reviewers have said that Starfield is basically Skyrim but in outer space.

Then again, I suppose unlike Starfield Skyrim at least isn't as flawed of a game due to still having quite a few redeemable features that still make it reign supreme in the gaming community.

Though if I had to ask, what does make Skyrim superior to Starfield?

Starfield is increcibly Shallow, you explore one abandoned building on an empty planet and you've done them all. I have see the same layout, same building on multiple different lifeless planets. Enemies are bullet sponges no matter what difficulty you play on because they have to make up for their Brain Dead AI. Every Character with a name seems to be Essential despite their importance being non-existent. Ammo is scarce for no reason, there is no MAP, every human companion is a paragon on virtue who hates you for killing a fly and nags you about picking things up. No ship inventory, almost no reason to steal ships.

I couldn't even finish the game. I have 1000 hours in Skyrim on Console, Oldrim, no mods. Another 1600 on PC, with Starfield I was done after 50. Skyrim is Bethesda's last good game.

With mods this game is a amazing, do yourself a favor and learn to mod, it's really not that hard.
