I messed up the Cidhna Mine quest help

I committed a crime in The Reach somehow and when I entered Markarth I was wanted so I had to go to jail, thing is, I GOT THE SHIV BEFORE I WAS SUPPOSED TO, and now I can't get it again to open the door and see Madanach.
I'm too weak to brawl the orc guarding the door so should I just go back a save and come back later? Does that even work??

Your best bet is to reload an earlier save and see if that works.

of course, u could always no clip though the cell door, but if ya 2 weak to brawl, I dont see how you'll finsh it, I had untouchable magic, when I was there, i fried his ass in a few secs, and wiped out the mine

if you are playing on PC you can use the player.additem command to give yourself some armour and a weapon. Just check the wikis for the id code.

That, or you could also give yourself a potion and Amulet of Dibella that should boost your speech enough to persuade Borkul to let you see Madanach.

Some of the other prisoners in the mine have a shiv, you can try to pickpocket it or kill them to get it

I'll probably just go back a save - as someone said in another comment, if I'm too weak to brawl, I'm also probably too weak to finish the quest just yet.
