Backstories?
Anybody else set up backstories for their characters? For context, I use both the Chanterelle and Take Notes mods and nearly always start in Chanterelle. This current game my Khajiit was enslaved by the Telvanni on Vvardenfel (I know it's technically illegal but slavery is not completely gone) but during an expedition to one of the big Dwemer ruins his master (I usually use the name Tethys) was killed by a centurion and the rest of the party bolted. Him and the three other Khajiit guards stuck together but were all captured. The ship they were on eventually crashed on Chanterelle. They all survived initially and built themselves a little settlement, but at some point the others all died leaving my PC as the last one left. He leaves the settlement to try to find out what happened to the two Argonians (Shahvee and one other) who went a different direction and may not have been captured.

Eventually the trip is going to lead me to Solstheim (via a ship added by one of the "south of the border" mods to avoid going through Windhelm) and then to Windhelm itself where THAT quest will ultimately be ended. My PC will then need to figure out what to do with himself. One of the goals is to avoid the main quest as long as possible, make enough money to establish a decent life, and liberate the Argonian dockworkers. He also can write all about it using the Take Notes mod!

Anybody else?

Coughing up a (usually Sonic Highschool-level of quality) backstory is kinda a core part of roleplaying.

For example, I sometimes give my argonian a lotta scars in racemenu (we're talking full-body coverage with mods), reason being that she used to be abused by the guards on the windhelm docks until she one night took a dagger and killed one of 'em, took his gear and got the heck out. Or something like that.

Basically I try to match the appearance to whatever story I cough up.

Narinder aspiring Khajiit mage.

Went to Skyrim on vacation.
Ate too much moon sugar.
Got arrested for molesting an imperial soldier.

Some strange blonde man helps Narinder escape and keeps talking something about dragons and storm capes? Narinder thanks the crazy man for helping and leaves.

Narinder hungry hunts a chicken and is attacked by bandits afterwards.
Burns bandits alive with hot hands. Runs to nearby town. Guard arrests Narinder for no reason! Guards are not nice!

Narinder escapes jail.
Leaves town and meets Khajiit friends smelling of sugar.
Takes moon sugar. Eats.

Narinder wakes up on top of a mountain sorrounded by strange elderly men yelling at Narinder for killing their pet dove? Narinder leaves silly crazy old people and goes to college.

Ugly elf woman asks Narinder to scare the floor.
Crazy ugly elf woman. Narinder ignores and crosses the bridge.

College closed? Narinder wait till open. Mmm moon sugar.
Narinder wakes up in strange place smelling of sulfur and lakes of tar.

Weird college.. Other students not friendly to Narinder but Narinder stay to learn more magic and became best mage ever!

Narinder meets talking octopus. It calls Narinder its "champagne" ??
Octopus man asks to kill Miracle? Crazy octopus man.
Narinder ignores and goes back to studying magics! Lots books to read!

Love it! My Khajiiti are very much the scholarly type and not the skooma type but this is very much a Khajiit view of things.

My character is a Warrior Sentinel Nord named Cassius since he was raised from infancy in Cyrodiil since my character's parents died in the Great War. Raised in a middle to upper class family, education is semi-formal since Cassius was sent to many blacksmiths in the Imperial City. Since he was interested in working with metal as a teenager at the same time he was also a student at the Arcane University, his grades were lukewarm or just at average and was also providing with Septims to his adoptive family from the apprenticeship anyway so they had no issue on sending him to Skyrim. Cassius has never been to Skyrim ever and has found out about potentially seeing the Civil War end (Helgen) from some family members and friends, so He tries crossing the border and crosses paths with Ulfric and Ralof, they skirmish for a little and then the Imperial Legion carts them off after knocking my character out cold. Cassius never liked fighting but only fought because he must, similar to Ulfric's reasons for fighting but instead of pushing out the Imperial Legion it's the Stormcloaks and the Thalmor. After Helgen Cassius now knew his purpose, to defeat Ulfric and the Thalmor, and now the Dragons not knowing who sent them, what otherworldly Divine or Daedra he may face. But if he shall fail in his duty, may those below take him, and those above judge him. He still remembers this quote from a couple of years back from a wartime friend, Servius Tullius. The quote reads as follows: "Battles are won by trained and disciplined men, wars are won by exceptional and talented individuals". -Servius Tullius, Imperial Legion Military Governor, 4E, 201.

All my characters have backstories, I even have one I wrote and posted here, though technically I wrote it for somebody else.
