everyone says look sick, but i'm not
I have had this happen on multiple playthroughs.
usually, at some point in the game, I get a sickness like rockjoint or the vampire sickness.

I almost always carry cure disease potions for this reason and will usually use them immediately after killing whatever enemy gave me the sickness.

but then , the people in town will still keep reacting as if I'm still sick.

I googled this and all I see are posts with people saying "look under active effects". I have no sickness.

also, side note, I keep seeing everywhere, people saying that you can visit a shrine and activate the blessing to cure all diseases, but whenever I do this, it never works. My diseases never get cured at the temple of kyne, the temple of talos etc...

and the npcs that can cure disease, never get the dialogue option to offer to cure my disease, which is equally contradictory, as will repeatedly say I look sick but then never offer to cure it.

is this a bug, or could it be from a mod i'm using.

most of my mods are just graphical, like the rustic armors and clothes replacer and skyUI .
I'm also using a mod that adds some new music tracks to the game and one that displayed the time of day on my HUD

I am also using CACO, the complete alchemy and cooking overhaul (which after playing dozens of hours, I feel it adds nothing to the overall gameplay , with no real improvement over the vanilla alchemy...) but I digressed

the thing is that I never used that mod before and have had this happen on past playthroughs as well

LoL. Teah, they do that to me too. Everywhere someone somewhere will say "you look sick..." Or something like that. Arcadia in Whiterun says that every time I enter her shop. And I just take the "roleplaying" attitude that she's just trying to sell me something.

And I'm not even really sure it's a"bug" exactly. All those toons have to say something to you when you get close to them, and when you pass several people the only dialogue that hasn't been said in the last 2 minutes is "you look sick".

I've had the shrine cure me before, when I WAS sick. Don't know about that. Could be a roleplaying thing. Vampirism and Lycanthropy are diseases that's FUN to play with, so they don't want to erase those by accident. MAYBE. I dunno.

But I don't worry about it much :)

I've had people say that I look pale and Arcadia saying that I look sick. Like Travis, I assume that Arcadia's trying to sell me something, while the pale-looking might mean I need to sleep

Alchemists (atleast the one in Whiterun) will tell you that you look sick. Probably because they want to sell you a cure disease potion.

It's a fall back comment that Certain NPCs give regardless of whether you are sick or not, just ignore them.

But the shrines not working is a bug, mod induced I would bet.

Arcadia is a unique exception. Here greeting dialog references you having several different diseases, including The Rattles, Ataxia and Witbane.

Other NPC's should only comment on you being sick if you are sick.

If your shrines aren't curing your diseases, make sure you don't have a ton of spell absorption. Like any restoration effect, spell absorb can eat your disease cures.

okay then...yeah, that was who i keep hearing it from. So, I guess that happens to everyone.

the shrines not working thing, I dunno what that's all about.

the magic absorption thing , i did not know that, but anyway, I have no magic absorb an my magic resist is only about 70%

70% is high for magic resistance. Remove that item and try again. I once gave a follower a custom Magic Resistance item and could not heal them after combat until I took it form them.

Go into 3rd person and hit a shrine. If you see the swirly vortex magic resistance thing, that's what's happening.

I'm playing a breton with innate 25%, took the alteration perks to have another 30% and my ring and necklace both offer 20% each, which does add up to 95%....but I'm also using a mod called Combat Evolved which claims to have "lowered the maximum magic resistance cap in an effort to rebalance combat so that enemy spells still hurt at any level", they didn't say how much, but level 46 arch pyromancers are hitting me for 86 damage per fireball(able to launch 2-3 fireballs per second with aimbot accuracy. . . with me getting an additional 37% fire resistance from my boots and drinking handcrafted a potion of fire resistance which says +66%), on expert level. . .so I'm obviously not getting the full 95%, damage is getting through.

anyway, I thought magic resistance only reduces the damage from spells, not outright negates them. which is the difference between magic absorption which does negate incoming spells, but like I said, I have 0% magic absorption.

I sat there spamming the A button on my controller, I must have hit it 50 or 60 times and still nothing. I tried this at the shrine of kynarerth, the shrine of arkay and the shrine of talos. I suppose it is possible that if the cure disase only had a 5% chance to pass through my resistance, it "could" fail 60 times in a row, but that seems statitiscally unlikely
as it is a 1/20 chance and i must have hit the button almost 200 times across 3 different shrines

The alchemists are just trying to drum up business.

Just commenting in case someone gets here and has similar confusion: CACO disables disease removal at shrines. It's mentioned on the mod page and in the MCM ;)

(I'm here because I actually am getting told by half the folks I encounter that I look sick when I'm not and took all applicable potions but I think mine is a DD-from-iNeed bug)

Yeah, once you get into any sort of overhauls or most mods in general, stuff gets weird.

I saw something a couple days ago mentioning that if you have survival mode enabled, NPCs will sometimes treat you like you're sick even when you're not. Don't know if that's the case or not for sure though.

Other than that, the only time I recall someone telling me I look sick is when I'm a vampire or talking to an alchemist, who is more likely than not just giving you a sales pitch.
Icedfate Dec 31, 2022 @ 11:47pm
i posted this 2 years ago. i don't think the game had a survival mode back then(?) , i recently saw aa video that they added fishing too(?)
anyway, think the mystery has been solved. i got my answer i was looking for.
the sick thing is just random npc banter and the shrines not curing me is from that mod. thanks for the necro to tell me that. that's not sarcasm.
i think that's a legit excuse to bring up this post again, lol
