SkyUI/Script Extender Problem
Okay, I JUST added a mod (Take Notes-Journal of the Dragonborn,) that requires SkyUI and the Script Extender to work. I downloaded both today, but when I launch a new game I get this message:

The Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE64) is not running. SkyUI will not work correctly! This message may also appear if a new Skyrim Patch has been released. In this case, wait until SKSE64 has been updated, then install the new version. For more help, visit the SkyUI SE Nexus or Workshop pages.

Does anyone know a fix, or what is causing the issue?

Did you download SKSE or SKSE64?

You must get SKSE64

Only get The Script Extender (SKSE64) from here https://skse.silverlock.org/

if the answer is yes to all the above how did you install SKSE64?

When you launch skyrim are you using the normal .exe or the SKSE64.exe to run the game. You have to use SKSE to launch skyrim otherwise it won't launch properly.

I downloaded SKSE64 via the link in Nexus, however, now that I look at my mod list, it doesn't seem to be there. Here's my complete list as copied from Nexus Mod manager

Make sure these 3 files are in you Skyrim Special Edition folder:
skse64_1_5_97.dll
skse64_loader.exe
skse64_steam_loader.dll

I always create a desktop short cut exe file to start the game (also turning off auto-updates in Steam, preventing updates from breaking mods). It's not necessary that you do that, but it's a good way to see if the script extender is installed correctly & running your game.

SkyUI works fine, but you should sort your load order with Loot if you haven't. I also use Take Notes-Journal of the Dragonborn (because I like keeping a journal and I haven't found another mod that does it). But it is an old Mod (2016), and known to be a bit touchy with it's controls. It works, but patience is required.

You should have: SkyUI_SE.esp somewhere near the top of your order if it's installed correctly.

Okay, where do I get them or at least go to in order to check that I have them?

They're inside the skse64_2_00_17 zip file that you downloaded from Silverlock.org. You'll need to extract those files & place them in your Skyrim Special Edition folder. I'd check to see if they are already there first.

you have to make sure it's set to launch with the SKSE instead of just Skyrim SE. If you don't it's not going to work.

what mod manager do you use? Regardless of which one there should be a button somewhere that says "Launch Skyrim SE" and there should be a drop down arrow somewhere that you need to click and select "Launch SKSE" Otherwise you can go to where you installed SKSE to and just launch it from the skse_launcher.exe.
