How do i get a horse to stop fast travelling with me???
This game is so annoying sometimes. I am using the Heljarchen Farms mod and it gives you a horse. I had to mount the horse to move it back into it's stable and now it follows me everywhere when I fast travel. How do I stop this? Most of the horse mods are way more in depth than I need. I don't use horses. I just want it to stop following me. Is there a console command for this or do I just kill the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and be done with it?

You have to get a summonable horse (like the one from the Dawnguard DLC) and use it. That changes your active horse to that one, and your old horse will stop following you. You could also try stealing a horse and riding that one for a bit. It might work.

Other than that, you either need to kill the horse (if possible), or use a mod. U?sing the console to disable the horse apparently doesn't work, as it will just reappear once you fast travel again.

Or... install one of the horse mods (like Convenient Horses) and see what they actually have to offer?

CH doesn't really appear in your game, unless you are using it's features. The option to simply tell your horse to "go home" is already worth a lot, but ability call it after raiding some bandit infested mine (which you mined bare) is golden. Horses can carry quite a lot and CH allows them to be trained to carry even more.

If you really do not want to mod, then steventirey presented all options in hand.

I guess I have no choice but to try one of the mods. I went to Whiterun Stables and mounted a horse I don't own and after dismounting I fast traveled and the horse from the Heljarchen Farms mod still followed me. I haven't even started the Dawnguard DLC yet so that isn't a good option.

Think it positively. This might actually give you a reason to use horses in the game.

I am not riding a lot, because my character relies on stealth, but just having the horse on call when needed is actually quite nice.

Either Convenient Horses - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/9519
or Immersive Horses - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/13402
is good. Basically it is a toss up - you can't go wrong with either.

Ilja uses Convenient Horses, and I use Immersive Horses - and we are both happy with our choices.

I happen to do a lot of riding in the game (it's my main means of travelling any distance that is more than a few cells away), and quite enjoy it.

I don't ever ride horses in this game. I either walk or fast travel everywhere. That's why I was looking for a simpler solution than using an extensive mod with a bunch of features I won't use just to get the horse to stop following me.

Well, those extra features do not actually harm your game. CH features wont launch unless you call them, so they can just as well be there.

Is there any issue using either of these mods with AFT? If I remember right, AFT has an option for followers to ride horses.

Honestly, I do not know. I don't use AFT, because it highjacks "intelligent" companions. I have been using NFF, which allows me to turn it's riding support off from MCM.

AFT should have option to disable follower mounts.

Amazing Follower Tweaks SE AE author recommends using Simple Horses with it, which has less features that what got linked above and might actually better suit for your needs.

Simplest Horses (and other mounts)

Horses
I recommend Simple Horse SE. It has an option to have "Followers Ride". It is better than AFT's "Followers Ride Extra Horses"; Simple Horse SE spawns a horse for your follower that disappears when they dismount as opposed to AFT's requirement to actually have enough owned horses. If you use Simple Horse SE, or any other Horse mod, turn Off AFT's "Followers Ride Extra Horses", which is On by default. I worked hard on AFT's horses and stabling so it does work but, it is very easy for other mods to interfere with with this aspect of the game. Simple Horse SE may need to be re-engaged from time to time if followers stop riding. If a Horse mod adds in new horses that are not part of the base game/ DLC then AFT will not be able to manage some aspects of these horses including re-naming them. This would include both versions of Wild Horses. AFT will not interfere with these mods but AFT cannot fully manage these new horses. Armor, saddles, appearance and riding of new horses should not be an issue, but AFT wont be able to manage them properly because AFT only has slots for the 20 or so horses originally included in the base game and DLC.

Rent a horse from a stable and ride it a short distance when you get off it will go back to its home and you can fast travel without a horse.

Rent a horse? Unless some creation from AE DLC has changed the behavior, you can only buy horses from the stable, not rent them.

Why bought from the stable they are owned and game will keep loading the last used owned horse after fast travel event.

A quick question: Do you still want to keep the horse? I can think of a way to stop it following you - and you will even get a filled soul gem in the process. Double win!

If you're a Breton or Orc, you can grill it up with Onions.

I kept Frost, put it in the stall at the house, Walked to Whiterun stable bought another horse. Fast traveled home to be sure frost was still there and then murdered the new horse. Frost is happy in it's home and never moves.

The reason other people is suggesting to install a horse management mod is because of the vanilla behavior. If you fast travel with a horse in your ownership, it follows you.

If you don't want to install a mod for this little thing, you can do two things: steal a horse and ride around with it for a while. I am not sure why this one does not work. Probably the modded horse has a different behavior?

Another more radical solution is ... to kill it.
