Do we still need a Bethesda.net account?

Do even still need a Bethesda account? For anything? Starfield etc. I ask because I downloaded SSE, for my wife, and I tried to add mods but asked for account, I tried making an account (on steam deck), but kept booting me to go online and create account, I'm currently on Bethesda.net and it just keeps spinning an icon nothing.

I have SSE on my steam deck and have no problem downloading mods, and not asked to log in. Its been awhile but I thought Bethesda launcher stuff was not needed anymore.

Just tried have an account and can login on the site.

OK, got it. Found her old account, logged in and needed to link Steam account, good to go now. I just forgot I must have done all that some time ago. I better double check my account now for Starfield.

Only for Bethesda Mods and Creation Club (including AE)

You never needed a Bethesda account for Skyrim...

Well it wouldn't let me download mods until connected accounts. Not saying couldn't play game but couldn't access mods under opening game screen.
