How to Transcribe the Lexicon ?

I activate the Lexicon receptacle. I activate the 2 buttons. When I remove the Lexicon to bring it to Septimus Signus it has not been transcribed and is still blank. What am I missing ? This is part of the Discerning The Transmundane Quest.

Once within the Tower of Mzulft and having placed the Lexicon in the device, there is a specific combination for finishing the transcription. The quick notes are to press button one until the next button cover opens, then move to the next. The actual combination is (I believe, from memory):

The second button from the right four times (pause to allow the mechanism to work).
The third button will be activated. Press this button twice. Finally, press the fourth button to reveal the Elder Scroll. You can now remove the lexicon and collect the scroll for future use.
