Can I use in game mods with anniversary edition?
So, i've heard conflicting things, so i just want to ask, but can I use the mods that come from the in game menu with the anniversary edition? (NOt from nexus or anything, only in the in game mod menu). I've heard that you couldn't use mods with anniversary but browsing i saw mods requiring the anniversary edition to use.

Thank you

You need to clarify some stuff.

First, when you say “Anniversary Edition” are you talking about Special Edition + the Anniversary Upgrade DLC (the bundle of all CC content), or are you just referring to the current state of the game? Game version 1.6.640?

Secondly, when you say “in game mod menu” are you talking about the Creation Club?

Regardless, mods will work with the current version of the game unless they specifically state they require a “downgraded” version (like 1.5.97) or if they require a specific CC that you don’t own.

Yes you can, though it is strongly recommended that you use Nexus instead, as there can sometimes be issues with using the in game mod menu - though this is more often with larger load orders, and not as much with very small ones.

For more info regarding modding the game, you might want to refer to this (and even if you have modded before, it is still good to refresh your memory as to some things):

Okay so, I currently have the special edition and i guess anniversary is the upgrade dlc? Im still looking to see what even comes with it cause i have the creation club stuff and what not that was made free....

And by in game menu i mean on the title screen there is creation club and a mod section as well...which ive been using...which is why im asking because I heard if you upgrade to anniversary you can only use the creation club and not mods, but i've also heard thats not the case hence me asking cause I only just bought this special edition on sale and installed...

So you have SSE+anniversary dlc (those 4 "free" CC mods), which is the current updated game version 1.6.640. You are good to go! I literally (re)started modding SSE+ last night, which I haven't since before the pandemic, so I am basically relearning how to mod Skyrim. If you are modding, the PINNED TOPICS are beyond helpful!

AFAIK the CC mods are already incorporated, there is nothing you need to do with them. Skyrim will start with them baked in. If you have been using the Beth "mod organizer" inside Skyrim menu, I believe you can continue to do so. If you want a more extensive mod load (I am at 43 and counting, downloading takes time!) then you should probably teach yourself to use the full array of third party modding tools available.

If you are a first timer, I think the best thing you can do is just install Arthmoor's unofficial patch (USSEP) and play it vanilla. You can't know what you want until you have tried it after all! There are so many Skyrim mods converting this and that, upscaling this and that, adding this and that, a person who doesn't know what and why those things are changed will just be confused. If you already know what you want then yep, go mod the game. Just be aware that Skyrim as it is a still a buggy mess, and you really should not go without USSEP at least.

Good luck and enjoy the game!

Like you've been already told you can use mods with Anniversary Upgrade DLC installed.

Anniversary Upgrade DLC = 70 Creation Club paid official mods. In other words if you buy all 70 mods (creations from the Creation Club) one by one and never buy Anniversary Upgrade DLC (as a whole) you will effectively have Anniversary Upgrade DLC as a result.
